ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Ok Now It Wont Start?? Wtf

Ok well heres the breakdown of whats been going on...

first off car wouldnt start. thought it was fuel pump... ended up being the main relay.. replaced it car fired right up..

ok well car was lagging power and i figured it to being my timing.. hit it with the timing light and adjusted it (i used the jumper) and it ran perfect..

ok well now i noticed my antifreeze was a lil low and dicided to top it off...
ok next thing i got in to start it to check another problem with a whining sound and it wouldnt start.... what the hell .. im thinking ok thats weird.. it was just running.. thought i was out of gas and went and got some (btw my guage said i had half a tank) still didnt start it turns over and hesitates to fire up but i get a lil grumble out of like it may be fould plugs so ill check those but do you guyshave any other ideas..

do i need to reset something??(ECU) after adjusting timing etc.. idk just let me know what you all think.

Check your oil, and if it's milky, your antifreeze and oil have been mixing= blown headgasket.

under the drivers side dash along side the steering column. might have to move a few things but its up there. its color is usually grey and bottom is brown. has numbers like RZ-0088 or RZ-0139 ect. use a 10mm and extention to get it loose. i would take a pic but camera is at my other house. go online to schucks and type in main relay. they will show u a pic of it. thats how i found it out. anyway good luck man.

i had a similar problem today; I just got out of work and ready to eat some damn tacos, but then my car did not want to start. It has happen to me before, but i would just give it a little while to cool or something and it would start right up, but thsi time it was just not happening. I called the mechanic and he said that it can be two things: the main relay, or the distributor, but when he went to go see it he told me to start it up(this was like 5 hours after work) to see what was going on, the car decides to start and i was like wtf and he told me that it must be the main relay.
I have heard that taking the main relay out is a pita, and here is a link that has helped me out and will help you out too.

There is a ground strap to the frame that is below the overflow resevoir, and the battery. I went to add some coolant to my car too once, and I spilled some antifreeze down there, and my car wouldn't start either. It would actually start up for a tenth of second, then die immediately (the starter sounded like it was getting enough power, and cranking at the proper speed). After a few minutes of trying to start it, it finally stayed on. It took about 5-10 minutes in 90-100 degree weather before the car actually started. I haven't had the problem since (its been over a month), so the only thing I can think of... is the spilled coolant on the ground connector, and that interfered with the car starting. (Thats with a Main Relay all point resolder, good plugs, wires, cap, new coil, new timing belt, etc... all oem or better)

As for how hard the main relay is to replace, its really only half a dozen bolts, you have to remove the cruise control box (if you have it), in order to remove the main relay. The worst part of it, is figuring out how to position yourself so you can see what your doing, and be able to reach the bolts with your socket wrench and still be able to use it.

To the OP, did you spill any coolant by chance?

In regards to whether its the main relay, what was the ambient temperature outside, and were the doors or windows in the car open?

If the doors or windows were open; how long had they been open when you experienced the starting issue?
