ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

OK to Keep Exhaust Manifold Cover Off?

I just took my exhaust manifold cover off in attempt to find my O2 sensor and I'm wondering if its ok to keep it off (pain in ass to put back on). Are there any disadvantages to keeping the front cover off? I've heard that it's purpose is to keep the manifold from getting water on it which might cause the manifold to crack due to the temp difference - hot to cold.

    Thoughts...

apparently it decreases the life of your alternator according to TypeG, but I've never heard of anything wrong with no manifold.

It's not a big deal. It does increase underhood temps a bit, which will cause rubber and plastic to become brittle. However, by this time, all of those things are brittle anyway!

Just about everyone that installs an aftermarket header runs without any sort of cover.

And yeah, it can decrease the life of the alternator, and any other electrical components. Electrical stuff and heat don't mix.

While on the subject, is the O2 sensor underneath the cover? I still can't find it. I have the engine type which DOES NOT have the O2 sensor going right through the cover.

F22A1 has it on the front of the header.
On the F22A1 and F22A6 it's on the downpipe in front of the cat.

Edit: Corrected, wasn't thinking straight last night

actually it's the f22a1 that has it in the header. the f22a4/a6 have it in the downpipe. later.

My buddy got a header from the JY and it had a small plate attached to keep heat from the alt. I've ran my CB for a couple years without the cover and never had an issue.

If your runnin AC it might heat the line up to much>?????
