ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Engine swap questions

    ok so I need answers.

I have been going back and forth on which swap I want to do for a while, here are my questions, and yes I did search throughout numerous forums before posting this so dont tell me to look for it because I already tried and didnt get all of the answers I needed. There is a reason we are all in this forum and it is to provide information and answer questions to help each other out.

I am leaning towards an F20b swap but the redline on this motor is at a little over 8k and I'm planning on keeping my f22 auto trans, so can I just get the TCM from an automatic prelude h22, which redlines at like 7800 and plug it in to my tranny? Or do I have to go through a whole other hassle and do the 5speed swap that I really dont want to do. I want to stay automatic.

If I did an h22a swap, can i go with OBD1 because its cheaper, or do I have to go OBD2? Can I do the same with the TCM to rev higher so I can keep my f22 auto trans, or do I have to get an h22 auto tranny???

I want to do a vtec DOHC swap thats not going to eat up all my cash.

Heres what Im lookin at for prices.

    JDM F20b Engine - $590

    JDM H22a Engine - $693

JDM H22a Engine and Auto Trans - $790

    JDM H23a Vtec Engine - $791

I want to do the easiest swap possible/not pay a ton.

    Answers are appreciated

    Flaming is prohibited

im pretty sure you'd have to go obd1, cause of the car...if you go f20, you'd have to get a obd2 to obd1 conversion harness...i wish i have an answer for you about which auto tranny to use...however, i really do suggest doing a 5speed swap while your at it, especially using a m2b4 lsd trans...i know a lot of people who didnt swap to 5speed during their motor swap and eventually did it later on...plus w/ a h22 or f20, you'd wanna be in the higher rpm's for the torque range and vtec. w/ the auto trans, it'll downshift and all kicking you out of vtec, plus a 5speed just more fun to drive!

Those are crazy low prices! For the price of the H22 auto swap, you should just go with that! That cheap F20B is very likely the 180hp version, not the 200hp version.

But yes, you can use the Prelude TCU and your F22 transmission will shift at the Prelude's shift points. The longer gearing will definitely be a downer for the F20B, but it'll work.

alright alright, i know i said i made my decision, but its time i make another one. for financial ease and other logic, im going to go with the h22 obd1 swap and use an h22 auto tcm (thanks deev) and i should be kickin out some more power. my f22 is shot and slow and boooring so im gonna throw this beast in asap. soooo, ill get an h22 from tiger, a tuned ecu from speed innovations, and some bolt ons from ebay. does anybody know where i can get a TCM for the h22 though???

            Good to hear
Tcm can probabally be gotten from the local junkyard, or second hand from a local wreckers.

              Tiger = bad idea.
"tuned" ECU from anyone that hasn't actually tuned it for YOUR motor = bad idea.

I was planning the same swap for my wagon. H22a motor and automatic H tranny I'm having a hard time finding a automatic TCU myself.
