ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

noob questions about my cb7 please help

So I just bought a 90 accord lx sedan two days ago. it has been moderatly modded by the previouse owner: cold air intake, cat back exhaust, ceramic headers, spark plugs and wires... There are alot of minor things wrong with it: headlights, ac, dings and dents. But there are also a few major problems: clogged cat, weird idle, burns oil, has a leak somwhere, and the guy I bought it from said that one of the old spark plugs broke off and scarred on of the cylinder wells pretty bad. So I'm guessing I'm gonna need a new head, I think the motor is on it's last legs, I'm gonna have to drop the exhaust and clean it, and I'm afraid I'm gonna find MORE problems.
Would it be worth the money to fix it up, or save some money up and just do a swap? And if so, what swap would be the most recommended and cost effective? Please Help!

scored cyl is not head? Do a compression test.. If it ok deal with it for now... Personally I know alot of people have better input on used engine prices but they cant be that expensive. drive it

How much did you pay for it?

You can fix the clogged cat just by gutting it out. I that's what I did to mine. You mentioned that the idle was weird. Is it fluctuating? If so, clean your IACV. There is a DIY on it in the DIY section.

I'd just fix the cat and the iavc(what ever it is). And drive it or do a compression test on it. Sea foam works wonders on motors to. A used motor can't be more then $400 or so. New or rebuilt is gonna run more but with a better piece of mind. Or you could just save up a lil more and do a H swap its almost a drop in and you just need to do some wiring.

It sounds like the motor is shot... probably not worth fixing, unless you plan on doing a full build.

$350 for the car is a good price... Yank that motor and drop in something else, either another F22A, or something else (H22A, F20B, F22B DOHC, H23A... just don't get one of the SOHC VTEC Accord motors... they're trash)

LOL i wouldnt say they are trash, just probably something he may not be really impressed with.
              Solid motors none the less.

I also agree with everyone and i would just get another motor. For $350 you basically paid for the body, everything else is extra

If he wants a reliable, efficient, 130-145hp motor... then yeah, they're great. But everyone sees "VTEC" and thinks they're getting a SOHC H22. As a performance modification, the 5th generation Accord motors are worthless. It's easier to just say they're garbage and keep the noobs from wasting $500 or so on a swap that they will be disappointed with!

everyone has h22 and from what I've researched it's not all that for the price. I'm looking for something cheaper. I was thinking about an f22b dohc vtec swap. any thoughts or suggestions?
