ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

what are the actual benefits of chipping an ecu?? how hard or how much is it? and is it worth the work/price? Cant you just swap in a f22 prelude ecu and get the same effect?

for the record, i know absolutely nothing about ecus....

"Chipping" an ECU refers to the act of modifying it so that it can accept a custom program. The actual "chipping" is no more than purchasing the correct ECU (we can only use Civic and Integra ECUs, as Accord and Prelude ones can not be modified in the same way), buying a $20 conversion kit, and knowing how to solder and follow directions.

The actual tuning of the ECU requires a fair amount of expensive equipment (the more equipment you have, the more you can do, and the easier it can be). It also requires a considerable amount of knowledge. We have an entire subforum dedicated to chipping and tuning ECUs for our cars in the Performance section. Check it out.

As for the benefits... for a stock or near stock motor, you won't get much. The more you modify, the more you'll get from a custom tune. If you go with turbo, you HAVE to tune the ECU, or you will blow your motor very quickly.

What I heard is that chipping is only changing a few wires. If thats chipping whats tuning a ecu? And should i chip my ecu even though i only have SRI? I'm getting more mods in the future but this is all i have for now.

A short list of modifications that do not require/need a chipped ECU.

                      1. Short Ram Intake (SRI) -or- Cold Air Intake (CAI)
                      2. Any exhaust manifold or header
                      3. Any catalytic converter -or- deleted catalytic converter
                      4. Any exhaust pipe
                      5. Any muffler

Possible reasons for a chipped ECU

                      1. Engine swap
                      2. Turbo charger
                      3. Fully built engine
Officially "hilarious mad sarcastic"! Thanks CB74christ for the recognition of my work.
