ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    F22a6 wiring?

I'm in the process of putting in an f22a6 in place of the old a4, and after searching the forum I've come to the conclusion that there isn't a detailed thread for what I'm asking:

1.) I noticed immediately that there are several major plug differences in the plugs that run to the computer connections on the passenger side. what exactly do I need to do to make these connections work?

2.)I know that I need the ECU from the A6, but do I also need the wiring harness from the old car as well?

3.) I've also noticed that there are several plug differences in the wiring that runs to the transmission. Do I have to splice the old plugs onto the new engine? Is that even a good idea?

I'll include some pics if anyone wants to see what I've been looking at.

The 90-91 and 92-93 engine harness connections at the passenger shock tower are different I know for a fact. The driver's side shock tower connections may be different as well.

All other connections SHOULD be the same, except you'll have a plug for the IAB box on the 92-93 EX harness. I'd just run the wires from the IAB box to the A6 ECU and use your A4 harness. We should have a diagram of the pin in the ECU that controls it, I'll see if I can locate it for you.

EDIT: This is assuming you have the black IAB vacuum box for the butterflies in the intake manifold. If you don't have this part, there are no additional parts the ECU controls and you could just plug it in.

      DOUBLE EDIT: These should help.

Gah. Dangit... I HATE it when I have to re-write things three times... Ugh. Thats what I get for using quick reply...I should have learned these things by now.

anyways, I think that I have the vac box, unless there are different designs for them... I have the one that came with the car... do I need to get that from the junkyard if its different?

Here's a few pics of the plugs that I was talking about, except one, because I figured out that it was the exhaust sensor. (is that the o2 sensor then?)

        New engine: (f22a6)

        Old engine: (f22a4)

        Car:

EDIT: yes, I know the old plugs look like crap... I think thats di-electric grease however.

Well... It IS attached to the A6 engine... unless the person that had the a6 had done some sort of swap before hand, I would guess that its the original wiring. I think that the car had the ALB system, as far as I could tell. but I do have one other plug that I cannot figure out... its underneath the car, and is fairly close to the the plug for the exhaust sensor. Its a different design then I've seen when compared to the rest of the plugs on the car... could it have something to do with the Anti-locks?

That plug near the O2 sensor is probably the IAB vacuum box plug if its a round 2 pin connector. Use the F22A4 harness and run wire from the vacuum box to your ECU.

Unless you have two different harnesses, such as an Auto and 5-Speed harness, I see no reason not to use your A4 harness on the F22A6 and run your wiring from the IAB Vacuum box to the ECU. That would be the simplest solution to your problem, unless you want to re-pin the shock tower connectors using other parts, and you'd STILL have to run a wire from the shock tower connector to the ECU because the A4 doesn't have a wire on the car side of the harness to control the IAB vacuum box.

EDIT: And all IAB boxes are identical from what I've learned. they are simply a solenoid attached to a vacuum canister that hodls a vacuum until the solenoid opens and releases that vacuum, opening the IAB system.
