ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Engine/Tranny Problem?

Ok, so I'm going to attempt to provide an accurate description of what is going on with my cb7. It has been parked for the last 6 months or so because I haven't been able to figure out exactly what is going on with it and can't afford to take it to a shop. I ran both my TCU and ECU codes months ago, but can't get the jumper to make a connection right now, but I do remember the code for the Oxygen sensor and the code for Fuel Supply System (43 possibly?)

The problem with it originally started a long time ago. I was driving to the next city over twice a week. It's about 40 minutes of driving each way and the speed limit is 55-60 for the majority of the drive. Sometimes when I'd be driving back from there, my car would bog down instead of accellerating when I would hit the gas pedal. It would happen around 55 MPH and in the RPM range of 2500-3500. The only way to get around it would be to let off the gas or to floor it out of the RPM range I mentioned above. It would only do it sometimes, then eventually it quit doing it at all.

Then right before I quit driving it, I noticed a new problem. My D4 light would stay on constantly, even when I wasn't in D4, and my car was skipping first gear. It would however hit first gear if I put the car into 1. When this started happening, I noticed that the problem mentioned in the previous paragraph had come back, but it would do it at any speed if I was in the 2500-3500 RPM range.

A couple weeks ago, I started my car and drove it through part of the neighborhood and my D4 light wasn't on and it drove fine through all the gears, or at least through the gears I could make it to in the neighborhood.

I have replaced my oxygen sensor since then because I heard that the first problem I mentioned could be caused by a faulty O2 Sensor. I started it today and the D4 light is on again and it's skipping first gear... Up until now though for the last few weeks, it has been driving fine.

Has anyone experienced anything like this or have any information that could help me in getting my cb7 on the road again?

    Thanks in advance,
    Ray

My car has a similar problem, and I also got Code 43. I haven't yet replaced the oxygen sensor, but that's a very likely culprit. Seeing as the CEL tends to come on right around 55mph, it's likely not ACTUALLY the fuel system... though it's still possible.

i'm sorry I don't have any definite answer for you, as I haven't quite fixed it myself... but those are my own assumptions. You seem to be thinking along the same lines as me!

Replace the o2 sensor with a new unit from Honda (aftermarket ones don't always work correctly). If you have a new Honda unit... then perhaps it's something more (which is bad news for me!)

The transmission issue... I don't know automatics all that well, so I won't even attempt a guess there. I don't want to give bad advice.

Shift solenoids tend to go bad on these transmissions, after all it is a 18 year old car, the bogging down issue could be clogged up egr ports also. Those are the only things that come to mind now.

I agree with deevergote with the o2 sensor mine had that problem and after I replaced the sensor it went away.
The transmission issue could b a bad tcu, my previous cb had that issue. The way I confirmed it was by unplugging it and waiting about 30 sec then plug back again and the problem went away, but after a while it comes back. But like I said it could b that, don't quote me on it.Good luck.

I forgot a detail. Before the D4 light was coming on again, my battery was dead for a few weeks. I was thinking that it could have reset everything in the process of being dead which is why everything was fine when I started it again. Possibly the same as unplugging the tcu?

If that is the problem, does anyone know about how much a new TCU would cost me?

How would I check both the TCU and the Solenoids to know which needs to be replaced?

I had some bizarre problems with my tranny one time, gear shifting was all messed up. I changed the TCU and all that. It turned out to be the radiator was messed up and the transmission fluid was getting too hot and slipping up the gears. I would try that
