ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Cigarette lighter hook up help!

ok so i cut off my cigarette lighter a while back in my car so i can hook up a switch. So now i want to hook it back up but it only has one wire, and to the best of my knowledge, its the power wire. My question is, was it supposed to have a ground wire hooked up to it as well? i mean im sure it does, but where does it hook up to on the cigarette lighter? The car has a ground wire and a power wire coming out of it from previous when the cigarette lighter was put on.

heres a pic of the cigarette lighter and the one wire coming out of it:

    help is greatly appreciated!

Yep thats the power wire, the ground wire goes to the steel casing in the pic.
Can't remember correctly for the CB - It was either soldered on or spade terminal on the casing.

Wiring with alligator clips is NOT something to be recommended.

I believe evil is right on this one as far as the spade connector. I did this a while back to hook up my cell phone charger in my car permanently. I never reinstalled it though. I have mine somewhere in my room with some other parts. I need to go through all of that shit today and i'll see if I can't get a pic posted up to help you out.

The cig light is a basic electronic device, it has a power and a ground. As long as you hook the ground (however you want to do it) to a grounded part of the car you will be fine.

You must have not read my question.

There is no ground cable hooked up to the cigarette lighter.

                    Anyways...

I decided to cancel out the stock cigarette lighter and i bought a 3 cigarette lighter output for $15 at Auto Zone (its more convenient, when you have to plug up more then one plug, ie. GPS, cellphone charger, etc.) that had a cigarette lighter input. I cut off the cigarette lighter plug and i had two wires to work with, positive and negative . I can't use my cup holder anymore, but ehh i hardly used it due to the cups getting in the way of my stereo.

                    and here's what i got:
