ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

relay found - honda can't identify

I have been fixing electrical problems on the '90. Everything works now except the cooling fan & A/C system. It's somewhere in the wiring or in the relay I found today. It's between the underhood fuse box & firewall actually attached to the fuse box. It is in a rubber boot and has 5 pins on the bottom. The two pins on the far right have a 100 ohm reading between them but most of the other relays on the car test as 80 ohm coils. I called two huge Honda dealerships in Tulsa and they didn't know what it was and couldn't find a 5 pin relay listed as a part for the car. So Honda doesn't know what it's there for & I'm hoping you do!

Here is a pic I borrowed from Dobermann's thread to show the fuse box and the dark void behind it where this relay lives.

Check out the link and if this is the relay you are referring to. (can't really tell by the pic.) It will be your intermittent wiper relay.

That does look like it. Probably not the source of the fan trouble then. But I don't think the wipers have ever been tried. Need to try those out now! Thanks a bunch for help.

For the AC fan you can check out #8 relay on the diagram you have 2 of the same relay one for AC fan and one for radiator cooling fan. If your radiator fan is working, try switching them and see if it works. Otherwise you can jump the fan directly to the battery and see if the fan is the problem. For the AC try #6 on the diagram which is the AC diode. You will see all of them on the #34 bracket on the left side of the engine bay by the cruise control actuator.

both fans work great powered from battery. cooling fan works if relay is pulled from fuse box & jumped. A/C only works if cooling fan is jumped and running then fan switch is turned on & A/C button pushed. Condensor fan never works even after removing the in-line capacitor "noise supressor" & jumping it's relay.

Removing the diode from that bracket jumps idle from 800 rpm to about 1300 rpm. what's that about? I see on the schematic that the line goes to the ecu through the diodes... but why is the ecu involved in what otherwise is a standalone system? just for air boost valve function?

It serves as an A/C input.
Also sends output to the Rad fan and ECT.
Like if it gets too hot it'll shut the compressor off and kick on the fan.

found a definate problem with the a/c and fixed my passenger auto seatbelt at the same time! woohoo! Ok so my dad & I pulled the dash apart to test the climate contols. He noticed a screw head that looked like (and was) a drywall screw going straight up from the empty radio space. he turns the screw maybe a full turn and the seatbelt moved from the back to the front of the door. then we pulled the a/c switch & it tested bad so we took it apart and you can see where the tip of the screw was touching the board inside. going to the yard tomorrow to get a switch & back to the dealership because the harness pins they got me aren't quite right. so if I can get the right pins my rewired A/C harness will be ready to go and hopefully this car will be %100 working.

With the new climate controls in everything is almost ready. The only thing now is the red/blue wire from the compressor relay to the ecu is not working. It's either the A/C sub harness, the driver side harness to the ecu, or the ecu.

The fans now work as they should. Cooling fan works when running or not & both work with A/C on.

The passenger seat belt has quit now. Was nice to have it working for a few days. lol
