ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Bad Inner Tie Rod

When I had an alignment done a while ago the driver's side toe spec would not stay put, I was told it was a bad inner tie rod. Also the driver's side inner tie rod is pretty stiff, while the passanger side is really floppy. Is it the driver's side that is bad, or could it be something else? Just wanted to see what you guys thought before I go spend $40 for an item I may not need.

Might as well put it up on the stand and get a good look. If something feels floppy, it's definitely bad. Maybe they just got sloppy on the alignment job when they realized it was impossible, or misspoke. I just replaced an outer tie rod and it was pretty straightforward .

I got an idea of how clueless and shady some garages are after I replaced it and needed a post-op alignment.
"Hello, how much do you charge for an alignment?"
"Is something wrong with your car?"
"I just replaced a tie rod end."
"What? So what's wrong with it?"
"Nothing is wrong. I just replaced a tie rod."
    "A what?"
"A major part of the steering was replaced. It needs readjustment."
    "Where was it serviced?"
"I did it. A garage would have done the alignment already…"
"You did work on it yourself???"
"How much do you charge for an alignment on a '91 Honda Accord??"
"That would run anywhere from $120 to $150"

the stiff side is good, id be worried about the floppy side because more clearance will cause a component to be loose.

this is really easy to diagnose. drive up on a set of blocks or ramps but put two plastic sheets under the tires so it is easy to turn the wheel.

get under the car and have a person turn the wheel back and forth rapidly. put your hands on the tie rods and feel for clicking. the clicking is the joint hitting the socket. there shouldnt be any clearance and all vibrations should be transferred and not absorbed.

put your hands on the rack as well.

                ROFL. thats awesome.

i'd say the tie rod thats loose (pass side) is bad if it loose or sloppy. does it pull to one side when you drive sometimes?

Think I missed something. Which is the stiff and which is the floppy side?

The passanger side is floppy, but the driver side is the one that was giving the tech. problems.

                        40 bux!!!
                        where are you shopping??

NAPA (i work there) has them for less than half that.

we have a new line, ALTROM. its all oe parts. not in a honda bag per say.
in the ultra-8 bag that they come from the manufacturing plant before honda buys them and marks them up.
nippon oil filters, exedy clutches, brembo rotors. NAPA is really steppin up their game these days. youd be pleasantly surprised.

heres your part number: ATM 1002915

if your local store doesnt have them, the Sac DC should be able to get them to your location overnight.

i just did inners and outers a couple weeks ago. at my employee price, all four parts were less than 40 bux.

Wed3k I just did the wheel bearings maybe 3 weeks ago. And H22artman thanks for the info, I always forget about NAPA because it sits off the way a little bit and advanced and autozone are right on the main road.
