ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Oil Leakage!

Morning all! Having a difficult time with a oil leak I behind the distributor. I know there is a O-Ring there and I have replaced it, but the stupid thing continues to leak a week or 2 later. It then cause issues with my wires on the tranny and around that area. Wondering if there is a better solution or part I need to use. Or if there is a magic trick I don't know. Any thoughts will be appreicated!

It could be the cam seal that's leaking. I would pull the distributor and make sure that the o-ring that you just replaced is properly seated... then look deeper. If it's the cam seal, it might be time to install a regrind the cam will be coming out anyway, might as well toss in an upgrade!

there's only an O-ring in there. No cam seal.
Did you use a generic O-ring for the dizzy or did you get the proper one?
Just make sure you lube the o-ring before you install. If you put it together dry, it can try to roll out of it's groove and tear.

Either way, time to pull it back apart and take a closer look.

incorrect installation of distributor shaft o-ring. remove and replace the o-ring. lube and be more careful during install of the distributor to the head.

Well, I did put it in dry thinking if I lubed it it would leak again. So... I should take it out again and lube it. How bad would it be just to leave it dry?

I also had to buy a regular O-Ring, because nobody in all of Sacramento had a Dizzy o-ring.

how much oil are we talking about? I personally wouldn't worry about it if it isn't all that much.

you CAN use a generic o-ring, but in order for it to work it must protrude slightly beyond the distributor shaft diameter when it is installed in it groove. This will allow it to crush slightly when you install it and create a positive seal.
oh, and definitely wipe a little oil on the o ring before you put it together.
(The O-ring you used may be close enough in diameter, but might be too thin.)

This exact thing is happening to me. It was leaking, i replaced the dizzy-O ring, seemed fine for a couple weeks and now my tranny is covered in oil again. Uses around a quart a month depending on how much i drive. Mabey i should get another one and LUBE it?

Its enough oil to saturate the wires on the tranny and drip a little. Makes the whole engine bay look shitty. I do clean it with purple power and armor all once a month to help it though.

yep, mines so bad it covers the tranny in oil, drips down and on the ground. And sprays on my exhaust which smells like shit.
