basically my right passenger side tire has been wearing alot faster than the others, i just inspected down there an noticed i can push the whole wheel assembly in and out while the car is on the ground, the pivot point seems to be right here where this rubber bushing thing is, i checked the other side and it doesnt move at this location some i guessing this rubber thing is bad?? and thats why im getting weird tire wear. So what is this thing called? Is it extremely hard to replace or do i have to bring my car somewhere? and also is it safe to drive the way it is or is my wheel gonna break off or something

ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!
Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956
Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)
Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.
These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.
1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.
2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.
3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.
4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.
The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.
The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

upper ball joint. Always check for play in the joint the way you did, with the car on the ground. If you jack the car up, the wheel/suspension hangs from it and you'd never know it was loose. Replacement is pretty easy. I believe the ball joints are pressed in, like they were on my civic. I prefer to just replace that whole upper arm cause it'll have a ball joint pressed in already.
It's possible that the ball joint could break, your wheel wouldn't fall off, but it would do a lot of damage. Might as well replace both front uppers while you're at it.Last edited by wherm; 04-27-2009, 08:13 PM.

look on ebay. I got both front uppers for my civic for half as much as they want for one.

i finally got my upper control arm and im ready to install it, i was looking at autozone's repair manual and Honda's service manual and noticed a difference between the two. The point where the control arm swivels (opposite end of where its bolted into the body) theres 2 bolts these are supposed to be torqued to 22ft pounds which is cool only thing is autozone says apply sealant to nut end after torque honda doesnt say anything about applying sealant. they just say torque to 22 ft pds. should i get some sealant or what??? and what about greasing anything before i install the new part? is that required anywhere around the bushings on the new part?

Greasing shouldn't be necessary. You can lube the bushings on the anchor bolts (the two pivoting bolts at the Y end, but you really don't need to. The ball joint boot should be sealed, so no greasing necessary there. Applying sealant/loctite is always a good idea, though I never have. Again, doing more is never a bad thing.
Just be sure to use a new cotter pin (should come with the new UCAs) and be sure everything is torqued properly.
Finally, GET AN ALIGNMENT! When messing with suspension stuff, you can throw your alignment off. Pay the $65 or whatever to get that done, or pay $300 for tires in a few months!
