ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

problems with my CB (ABS, oil leak, and a weird sound)

all right i have had my 92 EX sedan for about a year now and about 6 months ago me and my dad switch the driver side axle shaft and that is when my car started leaking oil from the oil filter. i've inspected it closely and it seems as if the oil is coming from the adapter?(do not know what the part is called) that connects the oil filter to the engine block.

My ABS light has also come on after the install of the axle. when i turn on the car it does not appear but when i go over 5 mph it turns on and stays on. do not know what might be causing it, i told a mechanic about it and he said that the light is just normal for a car that old. was thinking of bleeding the brakes to try and solve the problem.

and ever since i bought the car it makes a strange sound on the front passenger side whenever i turn the car on and drive. it does the sound for about 2-4 seconds then disappears, and when i turn off the car then turn it back on and drive, it does it again. i have no idea what it is?

sorry for all of these questions
just thought it would be easier to post all of my question in on thread than in 3 different ones.

    Not Related.

the oil is coming from the adapter?(do not know what the part is called) that connects the oil filter to the engine block.

IF It's an A6 block the extra stuff at the filter is the oil cooler, just make sure the lines are OK.

Probably related. ABS cars have to have ABS sensor "ring" on the axle. If you did not get an ABS axle it will trough code.

If the sound is a fast pumping noise it is the ABS system priming, this is normal. if not could be a dozen different things.

i told a mechanic about it and he said that the light is just normal for a car that old.

    Get a new mechanic!

can not really explain the sound but i will try my best
it sounds like the sound of the engine when u downshift but in like slow motion and instead of the v-sound from vroooooom replave it with "n" and it would sound like that iono

Make sure the axle you installed has got that abs exciter ring on it like old skool said. Once you get that out of the way and the abs light still comes then pull the codes. The noise on the pump should only be for about 5 seconds or so. Any longer then the pump is overun(constantly running) and you'll have to figure out why.

yea the when i got the axle i really did not know it had anything to do with the abs system. i got it in a local jy from any cb (mosty likely from a 91). i jsut got any that were in ok condition.

I had the same problem, the noise is normal, and if the light of ABS is on it means the abs is off, the ecu make that. In my case, i solve it putting brake fluid Perfectly in MAX, (both , in the master cylinder and in the abs bomb.

Once i overput brake fluid in the abs bomb, and then driving the abs started when i brake normaly jaja, then y take off some fluid and workd fine.

(sorry my english im from ARGENTINA, buenos aires)

The abs system uses a Hall Effect sensor on/near the axles that reads the speed of the axles. I think there is a ring of different magnets on the axle that the sensor reads as they rotate and that's how the ABS system knows how fast your axle is turning at any given time.

So yes. You now have a non-ABS car I think.

Others may chime in, but I'm guessing the safest thing to do until you replace that axle is to pull the ABS system fuse so that you don't get any unexpected weird braking effects. If the ABS system isn't automatically completely deactivated by the ABS error code/light, there is a danger that if, say, the right side ABS activates in a panic stop and the left side doesn't, the car will go into a clockwise spin (because of no traction on the left but traction on the right).

You could of course *carefully* test this on a rainy night on a deserted road at say 30mph and see what happens and see if the car tends to want to rotate under hard braking.

I'm guessing the system won't operate at all in an error condition (if I engineered it, that's how I would design it) but who knows-maybe someone here has indepth knowledge of the system. To be safest I'd pull the controlling fuse for the ABS and start driving the car consciously like it is a non-ABS car with non-ABS braking technique (manual brake pedal pumping and threshold braking awareness/technique). Or just replace the axle with the right one. I'm pretty sure you can't just get and/or attach a sensor ring to a nonABS axle--but maybe I'm wrong.

My abs light comes on. The person I bought the car from replaced it with a non abs axel...I will fix that. If you get tired of looking at the light take out the bulb...lol jk.

As far as the noise from the passenger side, is it an auto or manual transmission?

The ABS computer is in the passengers side kick well, behind the trim panel. There are two wiring harness connectors on it. If you unplug those connectors, that will shut down the ABS system, so the warning light doesn't come on.

That, of course, should only be a temporary "fix." Replacing the non ABS axle with a correct ABS version should solve your problem. Once the axle is replaced, reconnect the wiring to the ABS computer, and away you go.
