ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    Running Premium

Ok so ive been wondering if i run premium in my CB can i advance the timing a few deg. I know that alot of programmers for newer cars will advance timing on a 93 octane tune. So just wondering if i could do that on my CB and possibly see some small improvements. I don't drive the car much so im not worried about the extra cost.
    Looking for a CB7!

you wont see any improvment other than the weight of your wallet.

even though ur timming is higher your compression ratio is still low. 91 needs alot more juice to ignite for a complete combustion.

    How advanced are you?
What makes me laugh about forums, is that no matter how much you try to help someone, they dont take the advice. Go ahead and do it the hard way.

You got to respect what you drive, and appreciate what you have, making the best of what you got. and if that means putting CAI, HID's, a phat stereo system, and a idiot in the drivers seat...then so be it!

    Retro!

I love nooBs...They make me look good

Im not yet i was just curious. I do plan on completely upgrading the ign system. My friend did a full MSD 6al setup on his 90 prelude Made a noticable difference in the car. So i plan on doing the same. Thats why i was wondering about advancing the timing

IMO the aftermarket ignition made a difference to your friend's Prelude for one of two reasons (or a combination of those those reasons):

        1) The OE ignition was in poor condition.
        2) A placebo affect.

The OE ignition in good condition will be more than good enough to strongly ignite the fuel.

If your engine does not require higher octane fuel, then using higher octane fuel (i.e. petrol / gasoline) will typically result in a very slight decrease in performance (and economy). This is because higher octane fuel is typically slightly less energy dense than lower octane fuel (i.e. less BTUs per CC of fuel volume).

This is because many of the additives used (as a fairly large % of fuel volume) to increase the octane of (unleaded) fuel are less dense than the 'petrol' component of the fuel that they displace.

A higher compression engine makes more power than an otherwise identical but lower compression motor because of the higher compression ratio, not because of the higher octane fuel. In fact the higher compression engine makes more power despite the fuel being less energy rich, i.e. it is more efficient than a lower compression engine.

You may possibly make some (very slightly) more power by advancing the igntion slightly, but if so then IMO this would be because the ignition was not quite advanced enough to start with. This might not be that unusual because the stock timing is likely to have some margin for error, with a bit retarded being safer for the engine than too advanced.
        Regards from Oz,
        John.
