ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I personally have been turbo for almost 5 years now and have had no issues with reliability.
Turbo CAN cause wear faster, because turbos tend to produce more heat. Especially a budget turbo setup, since people often use smaller turbos.

Additionally, I'll rev my H22 up to 7500 MAYBE once a day... Some may redline it at every stoplight, but not everyone.

A turbo setup, especially one with a small turbo, will see boost under normal driving conditions.

An H22 swap requires a P13 ECU. No more.
A turbo setup requires a custom tune. The reliability of the system depends largely on the skill of the tuner, as well as the condition of the motor and the quality of the components used.

Can turbo be reliable? Certainly. Moreso when installed and used by someone that truly knows what they're doing.

An H22 swap is more of a "do it and forget it" deal. It's a stock motor. The only thing you have to remember is to run premium fuel!

That being said, turbo is the cheapest way to make the most power. You'll spend far more time than money learning, tuning, and maintaining a turbo car.

I would lean toward the FI set-up...but it has been said, you can't skimp.

Buying a junkyard turbo with 80k on it and bolting it up is asking for problems.

Your set-up is only going to be as strong as the weakest link, whether that's the turbo, the conrods, the fuel system, the clutch... It seems like there's a crap load of information on this site to help you determine what those weak links are so you can address those issues as you start putting things together. Also, just because the oil has been changed regularly and the car seems to run strong doesn't mean that it's completely capable of handling the added stress of positive manifold pressure. There are plenty of other test methods out there (compression, leak-down, etc.) that will give you an idea of what you have to work with before you even get started.

The ignition side of things should get some attention as well, you gotta be able to light the fire.

I would also test and/or replace anything to do with the fuel system (pump, injectors, etc.) since these parts are the ones most likely to ruin the party once it gets started.

Prob should have went into more detail. No compression problems. I know that the weakest like will most likely be the stock clutch which just feels like a weak link in general. I planned on replacing that anyway. If the motor goes it goes just means its time for a swap lol. Now if only someone would total my element and the motor on the accord could go at or around the same time that would be nice lol. Id love to swap a K24 in and turbo that.

But for now it seems a turbo will be the way to go. I have a DD so im not worried about the car being tied up. Just gotta get some minor things fixed first. Mainly cosmetics and a clutch.

The clutch is an absolute MUST. I don't even look at that as a replacemnt... I look at it as part of the turbo setup.

I always say that boosting your DD is a bad idea... because of the added complications that can arise from 1) boosting an old car, and 2) adding so many things that could potentially go wrong. Since it's not your DD, turbo definitely seems like the right choice.
