ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

ready 2 ride, tranny repair ??

OK so i finally got my cb somewhere that i can work on it whenever i like. the first time i got it on the road was quite scary, pulling it with a tow rope is not a good time to find out your brakes don't work. thanx for the e-brake i made it with out any major damage. anyway here is my problem.

i have q 5 spd 90 lx. the clutch wont engage . shift in 1st -5th and reverse and nothing. the engine just spins freely. checked fluids good, linkage good. so im thinking master/slave cylinder might be the issue. i want to eliminate all possible culprits before i chose to replace the clutch assembly. or do you guys think i should just go ahead and put the new clutch in anyway? also is there anything i should know special about pulling the tranny?

you're clutch is toasted. no point on messing with the slave or the master. tranny removal is straight foward.

OK in the process of taking my transmission out my gear box had no oil in it. i opened the drain plug and just a few drops of oil came out, should this be a major concern or should i just fill it up and go on about my way. by the way the car was on an incline when i checked, front on jack stands should this make a difference in drainage

not really much of a difference. there should be around 1.8 qrts.

          how'd the clutch look?

Oil is for lubrication, so it is definitely a concern when there isn't any. However, we have no history of your vehicle, so it's possible that the previous owner was prepping the tranny to be removed for the clutch job.

When the few drops of oil came out, were there any pieces of shaved metal in the oil?

Use some kind of penetrating oil for the axle nuts. From my personal experience, impact guns are the most pain free way to removing these nuts.

no metal shaving, and i dont have access to a air compressor, so no impact gun for me, i gotta abuse these sob's with my hands

Good sign so far. If that's all you got to work with then let's do this. Soak it in PB Blaster and give it a few hits to help it penetrate better.

After about 20 minutes or so, use a *breaker bar* to get the nut off. Grab a pipe, about 2 to 3 feet long preferably and use it as an extension for your breaker bar. This will help increase leverage.

If you still can't get them off then repeat process. Be patient bro!

correct, it fucks with the spring inside the torque wrench.

LOL my bad, i used the wrong word. I meant breaker bar. LOL, I have one of the cheap craftsmen torque wrench, it'll break before I can get anything loose.

I'll edit my post; I don't want to be responsible for breaking someones torque wrench.

Here is the breaker bar I have, it's made by Kobalt. I hardly use it after I got my impact gun. http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...502&lpage=none
