just do a short ram if you're living in an area where it rains a lot. even if you put one of AEM's bypass valves on, i don't know if I would trust it entirely to stop all water.

i hear this everytime i tell some1 i run a ture c.a.i. it doesnt "suck up" water for two reasons. 1 the filter is relocated to inside of the front bumper, and has what i call, a plastic "splash guard" covering in between it and the ground. 2 i went to outerwears (www.outerwears.com) and had a custom "pre filter" (which is water repellent) made for my k&n. i tested it by spraying water on it and it just beads up and runs down, similar to what rain-x does on a windsheild. now keep in mind you dont ever want to submerge the filter, like trying to drive through a deep puddle, but with the pre filter ive never had a problem, even driving thru a puddle at 40mph the filter has never sucked up any water.

a short ram intake doesnt do any good. its just a 3in pipe with an aftermarket cone filter on the end of it located in a hot engine bay. if you notice, a stock airbox has the stock filter contained, so it does not suck hot engine air into the intake. well the short rams are not contained, therefore they suck in hot engine air, regardless of the temp outside.
as anyone would now cold air produces a better charge which ends up to be a little more power.

a bypass valve was designed for if the filter is completely submerged under water, which if happens to you then you shouldnt even be driving a car, it puts a break in the intake piping so that it wont guzzle water into the intake mani. good design to scheme money if you ask me. and as far as a bypass valve is concerend on a TRUE c.a.i. it defeats the purpose of the cold air, bcuz your sucking hot engine air through that filter when the enginge is running. POINTLESS.

c.a.i. is the way to go, even if you live where it rains a lot.

CAI WILL suck up water if you hit a big puddle...and in tx...that's almost anywhere I've hit several such puddles all the time...course I live out in the kuntree

BUT usually it is folks that have them right by the ground that have issues...my issue with cai placing is that unless your fender liner is pristine you will get kick up from the tires...that is a LOT of shit. Fender liners are always shit dirty cause of road dirt. Your filter goes to shit quick

That is my only real gripe with cai...well that and it's a misnomer.

my car pulls alot harder with the CAI, even though the SRI is just as good. it tends to ........................ out in the topend.
