    seafoam can I do it

I have an 93 accord tenth ani with about 260,000 miles on it. It seem to run good but I beleive my gas milage could be a bit better. I mean it seem to run good but I beleive I have heard seafoam can help with gas milage and make the car run better. I am asking if you guys think it is okay to seafoam my car with that many miles on it and what will the advantages/disadvantages be. I am asking you guys because you have helped me alot in the little time I have been here.

You'll be taking a 50/50 shot using seafoam with your mileage.
I dont know if it'll use it with your mileage.

I don't know if I would use it if I were you. With 260,xxx miles the gaskets may be pretty worn, and some of the built up carbon junk might be acting as a gasket. If that makes any sense. The seafoam will get rid of the bad carbon build up in the motor, but it also may get rid of the good carbon build up that's built up around some gaskets that have deteriorated. Now, this is worst case scenario, but it could very well happen. I've heard of it before, read posts on it before, ect ect. I did it on my truck at 85,xxx miles and had no problems what so ever. I've never personally done it on any vehicles with more miles than that, becuase my 1991 Accord only had 65,xxx miles on it when I got it 2 years ago!

              Possible pros:
Clean the bad carbon build up away.
              Car runs smoother, better
              Possibly better MPG's

              Possible cons:
Cleans the good carbon build up away, possibly causing leaks.

If you're worried about your MPG's, make sure you've got fresh spark plugs, fresh spark plug wires, a clean air filter, ect. If all of that basic tune up stuff is in good new/clean order, then the seafoam would be your next best bet. You may want to take some air intake cleaner, throttle body cleaner, whatever it's called these days, take off the intake hose and clean the throttle body out some. Also, cleaning out the EGR valve would help you as well.

Anyway, if you do end up doing post up with the results! Like Jak Frostwhite said, it's 50/50. Could go good, or bad.

              Good luck.

Seafoam can potentially damage seals, or if there is a leak that's currently being blocked by gunk, it will open it up. It DOES do a hell of a job cleaning, though.

For the safest option, just put it in your gas tank. It will clean your injectors pretty well, and the risk of any damage is very low.

I had Seafoam in my H22 for 3000 miles. I was a dumbass and didn't realize that you aren't supposed to leave it in! No damage seems to have been done, and this was quite some time ago. That's just my experience, though. Like most of my experiences with my H22, it is not usual (I've done numerous stupid things that SHOULD have blown that motor to bits, and it's still going strong!)

I appreciate your kind word there deevergote. How much and how long do I keep it in my fuel sytem for. Does it mater how much fuel is in the car. I know I may seem kinda dumb but I have never used seafoam. I aint new to hondas but am new to a lot of things I have saw on here.

if you want to clean your whole Intake , fuel , and engine system , do it right before an oil change b/c seafoam will "thin out" your oil ( idk if thats happens if you just add seafoam in you intake and fuel )

                      buy a can of seafoam

                      start the car

                      Add:

-1/3 goes into fuel tank ( tank should half full)

-1/3 goes into intake ( pereferably through throttle body or the brake booster, too )

                      -1/3 goes onto enigne oil

run your car hard for about 10 to 15 minutes

this would be a full system clean ,

after your done, head out to an oil shop to change you oil ( you dont want seafoam in you oil for long )

i am pretty sure that if you only put it only in the fuel and intake you dont have to change you oil , but dont take my word for it

i am waiting for my 3,000 miles to pass up so i can seafoam my H22

i was going to suggest running it through the fuel tank too but Deev beat me to it already.

That's what I was trying to say.

I'm sure it says it on the can somewhere, about how much fuel should be in the tank. At least half I would say, because the fuel thins out the seafoam. What I did, was fill my tank up all the way (18 gal in my truck) and pour about half the can in. I put the rest through the break booster.

That is true, seafoam will thin your oil out. While good for cleaning the internals, NOT good for daily driving use. So yeah, seafoam the motor, then change the oil right afterward. In the intake I don't think it will thin the oil out any. I think it just mainly cleans the tops of the pistons, as well as the intake side of the motor. It will not thin out your oil if you put it in the fuel. But just to be safe, do it the same day as you change your oil and you won't have to worry about anything as far as thinning your oil out, because you'll have fresh oil in there anyway once you're done.

                          Here, go by this.

When adding to the crankcase (oil) Do 1 1/2 oz per quart of oil.
When adding to the gas tank: Do 1 oz. per gallon
When used in the air intake, vacuum or other induction system: Make sure the engine is warm, SLOWLY induce 1/3 pint directly into the vacuum (break booster) or air intake, which will feed all cylinders. Make sure that the vacuum tube you're using will feed the cylinders. If you aren't sure, just do it in the air intake. Once done, turn the ignition off. Wait 5 minutes, and turn it back on.

Per back of the seafoam can.

He didnt state whether he was going to use it in the oil, or throught a vacuum line....

I've personally have used seafoam through my PVC line going in the the intake.... some do it through the break booster vacuum line...

Let the car suck up half of the sea foam through the pvc line and let it stall out after it sucks it all out or turn off the car. Then take the other half and put it in your gas tank. Let it sit for 20-30 minutes, and fire it up... You'll have a massive cloud of white smoke going on for a few minutes.

As for using it in your oil, probably a bad idea. Like mentioned before, it may break up some built up carbon that is acting like a gasket, and could cause an oil leak.
