ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

New to Hondas, need a lil help

i just got a 1990 honda accord, it has 213,000 miles on it, the computer was burned up so i put one in it out of a junk yard out of a 90 accord and it fired right up, ive replaced all the basic tune up things like plugs, wires, oil, trany fluid, and air filter since it had sat for a while. My question is when i put it in park (its automatic),it makes a whining sound, but when i hold the brake in and pull the e-brake before putting it in park it doesnt do it. Is this normal or something to be concerned about? I just went from a 89 Mustang GT but i blew the motor and know nothing about a Honda. Thanks

double check your trans fluid. needs to be checked with the engine running. Thats where i would start. also when you notice the whining sound can you verify its coming from the transmission?

Only whining sound I've ever heard out of the car, was the power steering. Been doing it for awhile. Sign of it going bad. When I was low in tranny fluid, it started slipping. I had to add 2 quarts of ATF to put it back to normal. (mechanics never replaced the axle seal when they replaced the axle). Never did any whining though.

        Powersteering

Most likely power steering issues. This can be as simple of a fix as just tightening or loosing the belt. Or it could involve an entire replacement of the steering rack and pinion and a rebuilt power steering pump. Sorry I cannot be of much more help. But neither are extremely difficult things to fix.

Paying someone to replace the rack and pinion may be quite expensive though.

If the problem is just in the pump I would suggest you attempt to fix this yourself. It is fairly simple and is a good honda starting project.

I hope you just need to get a new belt or tighten / loosen that one though.

        Regards.

Could also just take off the power steering belt and see if it still makes the noise.

Don't you always apply the brakes before shifting into park ? I just can't imagine simply shifting into park without my foot on the brake pedal. Does park work ? Does it hold the car in place ?

ya i hold the brake when i put it in park its just when i hold it in the brake and put it in park and rev it up the car was kinda moving back a liltle but if i held the brake, pulled the e-brake, then put it in park and reved the engine the car didnt move or whine, i think it only does after ive backed up so it seems to me that it isnt comeing completely out of reverse but thanks for the advice everyone

are you on a hill when it did this rolling back? most cars will roll a little bit until the parking pawl engages locking the transmission.
