Stripped interior, illegal?

I’ve seen on car forums in other countries of it being illegal to drive a stripped out car on the road. Does anyone know of the US laws for this?

I dont see any reason for it to be illegal to drive with no interior... As long as the basics are there, like a seat, and restraint system...

I would tell the cop that a 5 point harness is certified by NHRA and is required
for car that run certain times on the track.

If it wasn't safe, then that wouldn't be the case. But i guess it depends on the
cop too because some cops won't care because it is a seat belt.

IIRC, in some states, if you have a 4dr, it is not legal to remove the backseat, but I could be wrong.

NHRA *IS NOT* DOT....

Backseats, door panels and consoles are not necessary.

It might depend on the state, but im pretty sure you need function gauges(at least speedo) 2 seats and proper, DOT APPROVED, restraints.

i know a guy that had an 86 bmw and got pulled over by a cop that wasnt running radar while he was doing above 100 (this is in atlanta) and the cop pulled him over for not wearing his seatbelt, walked up to the car and seen he had a 5 point harness and a roll cage and told him to slow down a little.

as to the op, there is no reason for not having an interior to be illegal. lie and tell the cop it all fell off if he gives you any crap about it. thats what i'd do.

My brother got pulled over in his m3 because he didn't signal a lane change. When the cop approached my bro's stripped out car, he said, "what a waste for a car." or something along those lines.

I know here in NY its not illegal to drive around in a strip car ... i been pulled over in my buddys hatch and the didnt say anithing .. but other places might be diff .

i'd say it would depend on the cop. I got a reckless driving ticket for kicking donuts in the parking lot where i work at 2 am on new years eve. He said i could have killed somebody. there was one car in the parking lot. Cops are just dick heads sometimes cause they can be.
