ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Tie Rods!!! HELP!

I think that I need new tie rod end(s). I'm not sure how to tell if they are worn. My Honda likes to turn right if I get on the gas hard and turn left if I get on the brakes hard at highway speeds. Also, on rougher roads the steering wheel likes to have a mind of his own. Could anyone tell me a fool proof check to figure out which side tie rod and inner or outer?

    Thanks,
    Adam

Jack the front end of the car up and place your hands on the top and bottom (12 oclock and 6 oclock) and see if you can work it back and forth.

              No worries
Once you check them, check everything else in the area as well as outlined in that link.

if you have a set of rhino ramps, it would work but you need to have the front end loaded.

push upwards on the outer tierods and check for play. for the inner's you're gonna have to have someone inside the car moving the steering wheel back and forth. put your hands on the inner tie rods and feel for clicking when the rack is going back and forth.

x2^ but they are fairly inexspensive. if u are going to do the labor yourself then i would replace both of them. this is what i do for a living. but u absolutly have to have it alighned afterwords. and if you dont know how to check them i prolly wouldnt recomend doing them yourself. but if u have to then be sure to count how many turns it takes to get the outer off. and put the new one on the same amount of turns that way ur alignment will be halfway close to what it was before.

I have a haynes repair manual that shows how to do it so I was planning on trying the DIY route... How much should labor on something like that be?
