ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

    problem with heat shield

When i was doing my manual swap, i loosened my heat shield underneath the car to get to the shifter cable inlet, when one of the bolts holding it on snapped off. I went ahead and took the sheild off all the way back to where it starts to curve. My question is how bad would it hurt to leave it off, would it overheat anything above it and damage anything. Thanks and would appreciate any help..

You'll feel the floor get hot sitting still for any extended period of time, but in motion it should be fine.

do you think it would ruin the shifter seal or make the inside paint mess up

sorry, i just need to know something by the morning, so i can go ahead with the swap, don't want to mess up anything, or burn something up...

Leaving the shield off of your car should be fine (through my experience anyway). There's several ppl that take them off to get aftermarket headers, and some take it off for other reasons I guess. I've had friends that broke bolts off before and just took off the heat shield too (I know those bolts can get rusty). Granted, the name implies of it's purpose under the hood, but I've never seen any damage from removing it. Good luck with the swap.

I believe he's talking about the heat shield under the car, above the exhaust pipe.

tootall - If you're that worried about it, put it back, but I know a lot of people running various cars without it with no problems.

i cant put it back because the bolt that broke was attached to the bottom of the car and it would have to be welded or drill it out and put another bolt through it.

The absence of a heat shield will cook a portion of the floor pan and discolor the carpet. For the most part, it's a potential burn hazard.

You could always run a self tapping bolt in there next to the one that snapped off. Just double check the location on the inside so you don't drive the bolt into anything that could be damaged. All you're trying to do is hold it in place, doesn't have to be the original bolt hole.

The center tunnel will get very hot during the summer months.

I drove the race car to events for a couple years. One time I took the heat shielding off and threw it in the trash. Luckily the trash had not been picked up when I got back home after a weekend, and I was able to retrieve it.

Just bring a pot of water and some hot dogs with you when you drive.
