ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

    Washing The Engine :-/...not good...

So last night i decided to wash the engine with my boy at the car wash

I sprayed the engine down with degrease and let it sit there for about 5 mintues then started to wash it with the pressure hose while the car is still running...

    anyways not important

...once i was done with the pressure hose i pressed the level magigy under the hood which accelarates the car and car shuts off on me...

    very salted...

so i tried to turn it on after and nothing happened

eventually car turns on but starts to act funny and gagging to try to keep itself on...

i guess i might have sprayed 2 much in a location i shouldn't have...probably the spark plugs like an idiot...

Has anyone ever encountered something like this? What did you do after? How did you resolve the problem?

I've washed my engine bay and a couple of peoples' but I used Simple Green not degreaser.. I think you got water in a spot where it wasn't supposed to be I have an intake on mine so I have to put a bag over mine when I do it and I kept the car running as well

yeah. when you wahs your engine bay, make sure you cover the alternator with a bag along with your intake and JUST IN CASE your dizzy. i do that but the only time it doesnt start up is when i forget to take the bag off the intake. lmao.

u think thats bad...there was just a little part that i didnt mention when i posted this thread...

i was spraying the entire engine bay until my boy realized that he saw that mines wasn't shooting as far as his was (even though he had bought 2 of the same engine degrease)

"Yo, why isn't your spraying far like mines"

"fuck are you talking about?....."tire shine""

then i had realized i was spraying tire shine at the whole engine bay for like 3 minutes straight then switched to degrease LOL WOOPS!!!

lmao. naw. that wont matter man. its the parts that you get wet that matters. the alternator, dizzy, and intake are things that shouldnt get wet. if you have a stock intake then thats fine. but if you have a cone filter then it should be covered up.

is it better to have it running or turned off while doing this?

on...so that water doesnt run through the electric system when you turn it on.

Off, so you don't accidentally create a short somewhere while electricity is running through the system. Water won't run through the electrical system, but it can create a short. The water from a car wash is usally not very conductive, but it could be if your area has mineral heavy tap water, and if your entire electrical system is energized, that's when the short will occur. Not to mention if you accidentally hit your air filter and the 1000 psi of pressurized water tears it apart while your engine is running, it's going to suck all those pieces of filter material into the intake, and then the engine.

I've never gotten water into anyplace it shouldn't be on my coupe, but not everyone is so lucky. Carry a screwdriver to pop your distributor cap if you get it wet, and then you can dry it out with a handy towel or rag. I never bag anything under the hood, I do avoid my air filter, but unless you're spraying water directly at it, it's not going to hurt anything if it gets wet with the car off.

                          re; second part to it

I hav washed my motor evry weekend for about a year and it should shake but not for long if it keeps shaking u have a problem. u have to spray at least 2 feet. and do not wet the dizzy (distributor)

I worked at a detail shop for 5 years and you should always leave the car running. Never spray the dizzy.

Thats prolly what your problem was/is.
Little tip if it happens again. Take your dizzy off and spray wd40 inside the cap and a "little" in the dizzy itself.

Ya take off the distributor cap and let the water out now that you've most likely created a puddle in there. Gud job. And don't wash your engine while its running.
