ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    from regular oil to synthetic

Taking my accord to the shop for a oil change but this time I want synthetic oil.

Do I need any kind of flush/cleaning before using it?
If so, what do I ask for?
If not, will it hurt my engine?

    #2
You don't "need" a flush before changing to synthetic, but if you want you can always dump some Seafoam into it before you change the oil. $6 at Walmart.

i was thinking this too, but ive heard sometimes switching will lead to seal leaks.

i was wondering, could you try synthetic and if it leaks switch back. It doesnt sound like the best idea, but i was wondering if it can be done.

if you have an oil leak w/ conventional now, then it will ONLY get worse w/ synthetic, just some FYI. So make sure all your gaskets are nice and fresh, or at least not leaking.

if your engine is pretty old, switching to synthetic can clean the engine. Which will mean all the small holes in gaskets will start to open and your engine will start to leak fluids.

I've always been told to stick with conventional oil and I do; I just replace the oil every 5000km.

In that case I'll just stick with regular.

How about from synthetic to regular?

It makes no difference. Switching can do no harm to your engine. The only thing synthetic may do is uncover leaks that already exist.

I run a synthetic blend in my H22A.

                      Full synthetic in my L15A.

yeah i believe synthetic is bad for VTEC engines? on my F its alright, but on the H22, the guy who's swapping it says to not use synthetic b/c it can clog up the VTEC solenoid and not make it engage properly. Thats why some people have issues w/ it bogging and such. idk I still need to research that...but if its true, then that'll save me a lot by buying a blend vs a full synthetic.

i dont kno about all that. the only way i could see synthetic oil cloggin the vtec solenoid is if they just dropped in a used engine without doin anything other that switching to synthetic. then maybe, just maybe, that oil breaks up some crud in the engine which eventually could clog the screen. even then . . . i dont kno. i kno lots of ppl runnin synthetic oil but those are all freshly rebuilt engines. if it calls for regular oil, i'd just use regular oil. its that simple. unless of course its freshly rebuilt and u want to use synthetic from day one, tho i'm pretty sure ur not supposed to breakin an engine on synthetic.

                          i'm done rambling now.

Synthetic oil is less likely do clog anything...

Who is this guy? What is he swapping? After a statement like that, I certainly hope he's not swapping your engine...
