ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    YAY! 91octane....?

Now that gas prices are on the fall, im beginning to wonder if i should or could start putting Premium into my car.

I know the f22(a6) doesnt need it and runs fine on 87, but i work with a guy who's been putting Premium in both his Hondas(91 CB7 and 89 civic) since day one, even with the high prices, and he says that the few times he's put in 87oct, he saw a drop in MPG and performance.

Just curious as to what everyone's thoughts are on this and if anyone else has considered doing the same.

Drew, and a new guy...anyone serious?

I didnt wanna pay over $4/gal. Ive been fairly broke until recently and at just about $2/gal, id more than willing to pay the little bit extra for Premium.

'premium' doesnt mean better. it means a higher octane rating. it burns differently. more smoothly and efficiently. its needed for boost or high compression. it wont do anything to help your car. maybe slight better mpg but the price difference wont be saving you any money

the number rating is the octane rating. most cars use 87 octane. the main difference is that 93 octane burns hotter. higher end cars and performance cars often need/require this higher level. the octane number is based on a 100 point scale, where 93 would be kind of like 93% octane base.

you should not use 93 (premium) grade unless your car manufacturer calls for it because it could eventually damage your engine by producing excess heat.i drive a gsr, and it calls for 93 octane or higher becuase my engine is high compression......8,200 redline.

he's not wrong. my first car was a 91 talon n/a. i used to fill it up with 94 octane and sometimes even used some octane boost additive. i ended up with melted injector tips. higher octanes burn too fast for a car that doesn't have the timing to compensate.

i don't know about smart mouth, but i use V-Power shell Octane....the only difference is under acceleration it burns more efficient...so it last longer, i just get 35mpg in city + highway, 87 or 89 kills gas like i kill tacos when i'm racing......or speeding....but i heard 91 V-power from Shell cleans my air valves and longer lasting fuel filter......

Higher octane burns slower and more smoothly, preventing detonation in high compression and boosted engines. It can potentially damage injectors. Due to the more efficient burn, it CAN increase fuel economy... but with the price difference being about 40 cents or more... there is no savings.

Might as well wash your car with Evian as well.
