ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Rough Ride After One Grand Spent On Suspension At Mechanic!!!!help

Ok guys,my first post as a newbie here,I took my car to a mech shop on Tuesday, had problems with sudden rattling, clunking and grinding i knew it could not be the brakes as I had done the pads about four weeks earlier.
Mech test drives it,lifts it up and says you need rotors and new pads on front end, total job $340 then he comes in later says you have an oil leak to which i confirm yes,he replaces the valve intake gasket,$125.
Next he asks if I would like to do a full tune up,I go ahead because I knew I had not done it since I had owned the car for over two years, cost $185 job done, then he calls me two hours later to let me know that I will need right lower ball joint and right lower control arm total on that total job $429 he says that will fix the grinding.
Everything done I pick it up and the car handles worse than before, louder than before,I take it back he says I need left lower ball joint and left control arm plus alignment and tire balancing we are talking about $400 more at this point I am broke he says he will give me a free alignment problem at this point i think i will just drive it like it is,anyone know a reputable mechanic in the atlanta,GA area this is crazy

No I don't know a mechanic there and yes you did get the bend over.
You should shop around if it's not emergency repair.

wow thats crazy...125 for a valve intake gasket?
i would of taken the car to an alignment place and tell them that i would like to get an alignment but if they could check what i needed first. Get the car fixed them take it to get aligned.

              save money.

              do your own repairs....

              if you dont.

              well then,
you can fully expect the standard treatment from repair shops.

with the way things are in our world lately every shop is struggling to make any dollar possible.

they will do what they can to get your $$

I hate shops like that. @ Canadian Tire here...they tried to get me to do a complete engine overhaul just because I needed a new water pump. bastards!

Yea it can feel like everyone is out to vacuum your wallet but there are honest repair shops, just have to find one.
I do ALL my own work.

F*ckin robbers I tell ya. Happened to me when I didn't know better. Keep changing this and that, and after you spent all that money and complain about the car not running any better, gives you a lame excuse of not being able to diagnose it well coz it's an old car. Now I'm left with bills to pay. F*ckin idiot! URGH!! I'm so furious right now...

$250 and 2 hours of work to put a timing belt tensoner on my cb. thats with everything moved out of the way for the guy. all he had to do was take the alternator belt and the crank shaft pulley.

do you think i let him do that? sike. took it down the street to a friend had him do it for $60 and took him 15min.

do your own repairs man. $120-$125 to put on a valve cover gasket? the kit alone doesnt even cost anywhere near that.

save up and do your own work. get a Haynes manual. tells you how to pull the entire car apart if you wanted to.
