ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Intake Question

I have spent a half hour looking through topics and googling with no answer, so go please point me to a thread if one already exists.

I have a few spare dollars lately, and I've been interested in changing the stock air intake to something a little more efficient. It would be easy enough to just get a new air filter from a good brand and put that on the stock intake tubing, and at 3" I don't think there would be any real difference except for look.

Does aftermarket intake tubing improve performance/efficiency if the filter is in the same place as the stock tubing? I'm just curious if it would be important to replace the tubing too, as I cannot see a real difference.

    Thank you for your time,
    K

Stock tubing has chambers inside that contribute to restriction of airflow. Aftermarket aluminum tubing are smooth therefore no restriction. I heard that hp gains are lessened with stock tubing, but not significant. My 2 cents.

Most people run cheap ones, it's the filter that's critical.

Thank you very much, I hadn't really considered that the intake might have channels in it which would be detrimental to airflow. It doesn't make sense to build something that hurts performance.

They do it to make the intake quieter. It may hurt performance, not by much, but it makes the car quiet. Same goes with the exaust.

x2. I ran aftermarket intake for a year, but I got tired of the loud noise. I went back to stock airbox and used K&N panel filter instead.

I see. Earlier this evening I picked up a Spectre air filter and an exhaust tip. I need to do a little pipe cutting to get any real performance, but I (think) the car sounds a bit deeper in the lower rpm's than it did before, even though there's a bit of pipe going into the air filter itself, and the exhaust pipe comes almost to the end of the new tip, but so far I like the sound.

will a stock box with a k&n filter work using a cold air tube.

why bother with the intake if you got a bone stock engine.

save your money and just keep your filter clean.
use that money and invest in something like better oil, an A6 cam, cleaning, possibly polishing your intake runners, an p12 ecu...etc
that's where real power is made for NAz.
