ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Tranny swap

Well, not so much as a swap, but a replacement.

I got the diagnosis today that my tranny has taken a shit, and its ready to be replaced. its a 90 coupe 5-speed F22.

    This should be pretty straight forward, however, ive never done it befor. SO i have one question;

Whats the easiest way to get the 5 speed transmission out? From the top, engine and all, or from the bottom and leave the engine in?

I would take it out from the bottom. Leave the engine in there.

you have to get under the car and take your sway bar and axles out on both sides before you can drop the tranny. then you can get the 3 bolts for the tranny off from underneath.. topside you got some stuff to take off plus the 4 bolts for the tranny, 2 for the starter, etc. You have to be both top and bottom side is what I'm trying to say

The only prob im having is that i cant get the axle nut of the end. The car cant move, so i cant really get it anywhere to remove them. My honda manuel shows the axles removed from the tranny but still attatched to the knuckle. Thats the plan.
Can it come out the bottom without removing the axle entirely?

I really wish i could upgrade, but its not practical right now. The only non-automatic H23 trany has over 200K and it, ans they want $500 for it.

The f22 tranny in trying to get only had 40K and its only $300

Im planning the H22 swap in the spring, but i was hopeing my old trnny lasted that long.

They wont sell the H22 tranny seporatly. And it also it over the 200K mARK

                GOOD NEWS!

Well, upgrading just seemed to come my way today

I went to buy and f22 tranny, but just happen a guy I had met in the liquor store worked at this place!

I said "whats up man. remember me? Im here for the tranny i talked to you about" HE said, "damn i didnt think you'd actually come back" So i mentiond the prelude tranny and he want like, "i got something to show you"

Long story short, he found me an H23 tranny, and sold it to my for the same price as the f22! Fuck yeah!

Then i got a call from my dad, and hes like, " Well since your doing it all yourself ill get you a new clutch too"

So i got an H23 tranny and an EXEDY stage 1 clutch kit.

ANyone got any expirience with a similar set up?

Contact Gripforce directly and talk to them. 93twodoorLX did that, and got a killer price on an Exedy stage 1.5 (or something... slightly better than stock), and a Fidanza flywheel. I'll be getting the same deal when my stuff goes bad, if it's not already.

Anyway, to remove the axle nut, you need to unstake it, and then use a HUGE breaker bar to break it loose. That, or use an impact wrench or air gun. That sucker is on there.

The axles, both of them, HAVE to come out to remove the transmission. This also requires separating both lower ball joints, which can be a hassle. Don't rip the boots, or you'll have to replace them. If they boots are already ripped, replace the joints while things are appart. Failed ball joints can be deadly. At best, you'll probably total your car if they give while moving. At worst, you die... or someone else does.

Anyway, you'll need to lower the engine slightly. Be sure to support it with a padded jack under the oil pan. I used a good book.

The front crossmember should also come off, as the passenger side radius rod is in the way. Some just remove the rod, but I found it easier to just drop the whole member. I cleaned it up and painted it while it was out (well, cpmike did most of it... lol)

To get it back on, have someone ready to turn the crank pulley slightly while you (and possibly someone else) pushed the transmission straight in... gently. The splines have to line up, so the slight movement of the crank helps a great deal.

So Stage 1 is basically stock? Thats cool. I dont really need anything stronger.

Well, today, i got both axles out pretty easilly, though i cought my finger between the disk and the knuckle some how, and it made me dance for a few min. Got i nice black nail from it.

In about 4 hours of work, I got a whole lot done. Starter gone, 4 bell housing bolts loose, and all the little hose/wire bolts out.

Whats the major Diff. betweeen the H23 and the f22 tranny? If im not mistaken, 3rd and 4th are shorter ratio? Am i correct thinkin this?

I really wanted a lightened flywheel, but i got more than i could ask for today, so im not gonna push it.

Every once in a while shit works out for me

OH, and someone askd; I got the h23 tans for $350, with all the likage attatched, speed sensor, nuts and bolts, and the guy said, "whatever sensors you need from the engine, just stick in your pockets". and a 30 day warrantee, so im happy.
