ALOT of LOUD whining in the front end

WHat up guys. 1st off i have a noisy centershaft, i am aware of this.

My car has developed a strong shaking in the front end from exactly 15 mph to 25 mph. It does this regardless of which gear (1,2,3). However, i hit a large pothole last night and the shaking became less pronounced. I DO NOT beleive it to be a bent wheel.

Today, as i drove to work, i loud whinning sound started to come from the front end when the car moving, and became VERY loud when i would brake while the car was in gear.

2 days ago, i backed into a parking spot and the car became stuck in reverse. It took both hands and all i had to get it outa reverse. Then today i parked again and attempted to back out and the car would barely move. It was almost like i had a foot on the brake when i tried to move. Finally it would move, and it started to smoke alot underneath. I suspected the clutch, simply becouse how high i had to rev it to get it to move.

Just so you know, ive never owned an automatic, so i can drive a clutch very well. And, the clutch in my car was replaced 20K ago.

I stoped in another lot to try reverse again, and it worked, but i had to release the clutch very far to get it to go. All forward gears seem to engage just fine. I only put about 15 miles on the car sense this happened, and in that time, the whinning became so loud i could hear it over my 2 12" set on blast. Its really staring to make me nervouse.

My car has 40k miles on the motor, 20K on clutch. and 225K on the 5-speed trans.

Please, i really heed some help guys.

Ohhhh. I checked it out from underneith. All the trans mounts i could find looked good. The CV axles appear to be fine, no clicks or torn boots. When i spin either wheel it makes a grinding sound that i beleive is the center shaft.

Im hopeing this is not the trans...

is the whine constant, go along with engine speed, or along with wheel speed?

I beleive its consistant with wheel speed. But the whining stops if i push the clutch.

Its kinda consistand with the trans speed. If im going 70, it whines like crazy. but if i hit the clutch it stops. Then, as im still coasting at 70, with the clutch in, i can rev up and down with no whinning. So soon as i let the clutch out, its start back up.

Could possibly be your throwout bearing... though mine gets worse when I press the clutch.

sound to me like the bearing on the output shaft inside the transmission is starting to go, a big pita to fix. I suggest shopping for a used transmission

I was kinda thinkin a throwout bering, but its practically brand new. (new clutch EVERYTHING 20k ago)

The bering on the output shaft is more where its coming from....shit

Already priced a used trans. $400, but im a local at the junkyard so prob aout $300. That sound about right?

Anyway, im in the prosess of a trans flush, checking EVERY bushing i can find, then bleeding the clutch. God i hope it helps.

Im hopeing the car will last untill tax time, couse i have been planing on the H22 swap all year.

My throwout bearing is newish as well. I was a dumbass and used the bearing that came with my XTD clutch kit. Cheap kit, cheap bearing... fail. I knew it was a bad idea when I did it, and now that has been confirmed.

However, seeing as it does it when the clutch is engaged, Karl might be on the right track. You might have something wrong with the tranny itself. I saw a place up here that rebuilds transmissions for $250... shocked the hell outta me! Show around. If you have a place like that, it might be better to rebuild than to replace with another used one.

This may sound kinda stupid, but if the throw out went bad, would the shavings end up in the tranny fluid?

I never even thought about getting it rebuilt. I figured it would cost about as much as another beater Cb would! I think i will look into that, seeing as how a junkyard is kinda a gamble, you know?

Hey deeve, Do you know what shop that was, or maby a # for me? Jersey is no biggie to drive to if it saves me $150 bucks, and a Warente (Sp?). Ive got a CD5 Vtec just asking me to do my CB7 a favor.

No, I saw it while working up in North Jersey... I want to say it was in Linden or Elizabeth, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure there would be some places near you that would do it cheap. If one place can do it for $250, there are bound to be more than can do it for that!

If the throwout bearing went bad, it would not put shavings in the fluid. The clutch and bearing are totally separate from the fluid. If you have shavings in your fluid, then there is definitely something bad inside the gearbox.

A CD5 VTEC? F22B1? Don't tell me you're going to put that garbage in your car...

NO, no, no no....lol. no F22Vtec going in my Cb. Its in the Cd5....125K, totally stock. Its my Familly car. Its hard to get my kids in my Cb. Sorry, i meant it like, "my Cd5 will do go and pick up the rebuilt trans, for the Cb".

I Dont like the Cd5 as much as the Cb. My G/F event told me today that her dad would give me another Cd5 if i really need it, but im not gonna sell my Cb for anything. I made that mistake with my last one.

Anyway. I Flushed the tranny 4 times, and im still getting a considerable amount of metal shavings. ..

Should i keep flushing and flushing? Its $4 a quart and ive gone through 6 already.

Well i took it out for a spin today. It shifts a little smother, thats about it.

The whining is Etremely loud. When the car it coasting, It kind mimicks a Siren on a fire truck.

Is there anyhitng else i should check? Anything at all befor i get a new trans?

When i got backward, its like the reverse whine x 10.

                          Thanks

Possibly a wheel bearing going out.

I really dont suspect a wheel bearing, couse when i push the chutch, all the whinning stops.

When i was driving through my neighborhood today, the people were staring at me like, a block befor i drove by them lol.

I talked to some people. $300-400 for the tranny.

Just for shits i taked to a shop about the install. $600 on labor alone LOL! B.S.

I plan on the install myself if it comes down to it.

The noise seriously sounds just like a Fire truck siren!
