Help!!! Engine Swap on a 91 LX

    Hi,
I was woundering if anyone can help me with an engine swap I am planning on doing! After a deep reserach on the Internet I found that I can get my hands on a nicely used honda accord engine. What I would like to do is to swap my 91 engine with a 2003 or 2004 engine. When I first got my CB7 it only had 133,000 miles, but in my assumption is that those miles were not taking care of at all. the timing belt was replaced but i don't know when. as of now the car has about 150,000 miles. I was hoping to find if the swap of 2003 2004 engine is possible and is it worth it. will the trany mach?
    Will the engine mounts match.
    ECU?
    Thanks!!!
I really like the Accord and instead of rebuilding a dead horse I can just get a newer engine and solve the problem for some years to come
    Thanks again!

    what 2003, 2004 engine?

isn't that like the k20 or k24 engine?
and yea it's pricey, and you have to do Alot of custom work.

that i know of only 1 or 2 members on here have done it!
and took maybe half a year or so

just swap in a h22 dohc vtec prelude engine

ya man, you might have to rebuild an old horse, i would say H22 or h23 rebuild it and it should last you a good while

the engine you are refering to is the k24, they are pretty cheap here in Georgia for the engine alone, but if you want a motor and manual tranny youre going to have to caugh up some mulah, especially a manual tranny

you would need custom mounts, like $1000,
motor+tranny+ecu+ps pump and miss. stuff about $ 3500
labor i say about 1500, since its obd2

        conclusion: not worth it

just familiarize yourself with this site, inform yourself more and you should be able to choose the best route for you

At this point I really don't know how to adress my question about how good my engine is! Just today I had 5 people in the car, including me, I got 27 MPG on the Highway. When I first got the car I did a complete engine tune up, I am talking about a new BOSCH Distributor cap and Router, NGk Spark Plug Cables and NGK Spark Plugs, and also a new Bosch O2 sensor. the other thing that is new to the car is the K&N filter, OEM style, no cold intake systems. For the oil I use Valvoline MaxLife and again a Bosch oil filter. You can see by my description that only use quality parts not junk. I only use schell gas also the fuel filter is brand new
During the summer my Accord use to "drink some oil" but when the temperatures drop at cold start I can see blue smoke for about 5-10 seconds and after that it goes away. Just the other day I had my brother rev the engine, after it warmed up to about 4000-5000 rpms and absolutely no smoke came out of the car. On a average basis i have to add about 1 Qt of oil for every 1000 miles, so yea you can say that between oil changes I use about 7 to 8 Qt of oil.
After I talked to a mechanic that does nothing else but engine rebuilts I was told that this specific engine type is very weak on the oil rings and also the valve rubber gaskets. The car does does not overheat and does not use any cooland.
I have no idea what to do with this car!
          Please Help
          Thanks!

Also even if I want to make swap to that lagendary H22 engine what I will gain?
            HP?
            MPG?
            More head aches?
How do I find a good engine for a decent price?
By the way when I daid 7 to 8 Qt of oil I ment 4 in the car plus 3 to 4 extra during the 3000 miles!
Also I do understand engines, but at this point I am not really buying the Honda realiability mith simply because my other car is a Toyota corolla with more miles than the Accord but runs 1,000,000 times better that the honda
            Thanks!

schell= is this a new gas station?? how are their prices
                cooland=you like cooland(its spelled koolaid)
as for the oil and parts we all have different ideas of quality parts i think the stuff you use is junk

Well, if you're going to flame someone (a big no-no in the beginner section), try not to make yourself look like an ass in the process.

The OP is using quality parts, he didn't buy the cheapest thing on the shelf, he got what I and many others would have bought for our own cars. In many of these examples, he did get the same parts as factory.

He made a simple typo, did you need to correct him so sarcastically? Schell vs. shell is no big deal.

Cooland is not a misspelling for Kool-aid (not koolaid) it's a typo for coolant.

Maybe your car uses Kool-aid, but it's the first car I've heard of if it does.

And apparently you are an expert in quality parts and supplies, yet you failed to offer a suggestion as a substitute for the "inferior" brands the OP chose.

To the OP - if you're just planning on using the car as a daily driver, buy another f22a1, 4 or 6 and put it in the car. They're very dependable, there is an excellent aftermarket base for it if you decide to build it later (search for bisimoto, he's the king of the f series) and it will be relatively hassle-free to swap.

Thats why you are flamed its honda forum

with H22 you gain about 70-80hp but lose 5-8 mpg + VTEC is like sex on the road

i agree with visual poet, this dude only has like i dont know............1 post?.....

i have to admit i had to put some money into my accord, when i first got it, it was burning oil like crazy, it was the rings, got another engine from th junkjard for 400 and problem solved, after that i got the H and it is a good engine

i think, like most used cars it depends on the last owner, if they took good care of it then you are going to get a good car, if not then you have to make it a good car

you really cannot compare corollas to accords, thats like someone saying "my camry is not as good as my civic" accords are more like in the camry category and civics with accords

corollas have a smaller engine, 1.8 i think vs. accords 2.2, so a little bit less maintenance is required, in my opinion

the h is a lot more more powerful, you have two cams instead of one and plus vtec, the gas millage is good, depending on how you drive it

but ultimately it depends on you want and how much money you got

                      are you looking for

                      horsepower? get an H22

good mileage per gallon? get another f22 or an h23 and rebuild it, or rebuild your current

dependability and longevity? get another f22 or an h23 and rebuild it, or rebuild your current

just relax, take your time, do your research

the cheapest option right now, if your rings are bad, is probably to get another f22

                        OK
At this point I do like my Accord and want to make it the perfect everyday car, but how hard it will be to simply rebuild my engine.
Should I just replace all the rings and nothing else or actualy take it to a shop and have them check the block. For the head I found a remanufactured for a really good price.
                        Here is the Item:

                        http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/REBUI...mZ260301268994

                        Sorry about the link.

So at this point I will have to invest about $300 head plus gasket, but I have no idea about the rings and labor involved.

                        Thanks!
