ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    Final exhaust question

Replaced the header and downpipe... and when accelerating at a moderate/fast pace, I hear this rapid "ps ps ps ps" sound. My friend said it sounded like a gasket might be flapping... and what he smelled had an odor of that as well (I thought it smelled like clutch, but he hadn't slipped the clutch at all, so doubt it was that). Anyway, if anyone has any ideas, let me know... otherwise I'll just let the shop take a look at it. Thanks!

put your hand near the flanges to see if you feel air dont take it to a shop also check how tight the bolts are

If you're referring to what I think you are, they were tightened down to spec... if not, I'll go poke around. The headers were torqued to 23 ft/lb like they were supposed to. Or am I mis-understanding the part you're referring to?

If you tightened to spec but the threads were dirty or rusty, you won't get the same clamping force as if for new bolts/nuts so you will have to apply more turning force to get the same bolt stretch. You probably don't want to take it apart and reassemble bcs then you might need to replace the gaskets. But try some WD40 or pb blast on the threads to help you to turn the nuts easier, then tighten them a little more. If you still are getting the leak, tighten a little more when the assembly is hot.

It came with new nuts and bolts and what not. Well, we'll see tomorrow... too tired to do much more now. I'd just mess things up.

You say you got it off ebay. Was it a really cheap header from ebay? If so, those gaskets suck. There is a chance that the gasket connecting the downpipe to the header was not centered properly and you might have burnt part of it out if the gasket was hanging over the flange on the inside of the pipe. You should have thrown those gaskets that the header came with right in the garbage and used fel-pro gaskets instead. You could try disconnecting the header from downpipe and using Permatex copper sealant. Another thing it could be is the downpipe and header flanges are not sitting flush with each other. Trust me, I had this problem with a cheap ebay header before.

Edit: Is this like the header you bought?

If so, I am about 95% sure that your problem is where the header meets the downpipe

is it a thud or is it air escaping noise?

if it's a thud it might be your downpipe hitting your cross member?

No thud. Just a very rapid sound, more like air escaping than a thud.
