ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

Oil leak -- new seals and gaskets, what else???

Okay guys...I just got a timing belt job done at a local shop. I also put on a new valve cover gasket set as well as a new oil pan gasket/oil pan plug.

After all that, there is still a tiny leak/wet spot at the bottom of the timing belt/crank cover. The oil pan is dry (except for the side next to the wet spot). Okay, my oil pan gasket looks good, the oil pan drain plug is dry, and assuming the shop did the timing job right (i might just take it back for the 90day labor warranty), what else might be the culprit of this oil wet spot?? as MINOR as it is...it's unacceptable!

    new parts:
    • Timing belt
    • balance shaft belt
    • water pump
    • new tensioners
    • oil seals
    • balance shaft retainer clip
    • drive belts
    • valve cover and oil pan gasket

Either rear main seal or oil pan gasket.

Is it a leak, or just left over residue from after all the work was done?
Were all the seals replaced - Cam seal, balance shaft seal, and crank seal?
If they were all replaced and there is still a leak, either one of the seals is possibly leaking again, Or your P/S pump is leaking - The p/s oil can often leak down the front of the covers and appear most obvious at the bottom

yea, I wiped the whole car down after the work so that i could spot any oil (anywhere on the car) -- drove a few hundred miles, went back under and found the wet area in the bottom corner of the cover. it's not a steady drip drip drip or anything. its wet enough that it probably drips just a little when the motor is running. oil dipstick doesnt indicate any alarming loss of oil and my car doesn't burn oil.

all 3 seals were done. i bought the oem parts myself.

p/s looks fine...i guess(?) ill have to double check, but i doubt it has an issue - i havent had to top it off.

Was there a drip actually sitting there, or just a residue?
Wipe it off, then recheck it again in 100miles.
If it is there again, check wether it is better, worse or the same as now.

Oil pump doesn't have a gasket, it has a sealer. Or do you mean the rear balance shaft gasket?
