Got a few questions about doing H22 swap.

Hi I'm new and have a few questions about getting an H22 swap done because my engine just siezed on me. First off I'm not mechanically inclined and dont have tools to do it so does anybody know any place in or around Phoenix, AZ. that I can get it done at? I would rather have the shop get everything so I dont have to cause I dont have the time. Also after I get it done what are the best parts to add onto it to get the most out of the engine? Also would my auto tranny fit or would I have to use the 1 with the swap? Any and all help will greatly be appreciated. I'll check here for posts or you can e-mail me at dooey52@cox.net.

    Thanks
    John

a shop is going to cost you alot of money to do the swap.... if you can get a shop to do it... they will probally half ass some stuff... its not a hard swap to do at all... alot cheaper... the biggist performance upgrade you could do for the h22 after you get it in would be to get ride of the auto f22 trans and get a h22 5speed and get rid of auto altogether... look around in the swap section of the site.. for the h22 swap your looking at around 1700 doing it yourself... shop will probally wont 2500and up to do it...

Thanks for the info. Whats the best manual to buy for doing this swap and does it tell you all the parts I'm going to need and what parts I can keep? Cause I just had the whole front end replaced from axle to wheel not even 500 miles ago. PLease let me know. Also I've looked at some of the treads but only found a couple if you happen to have them marked can you please send them?

        Thanks

the h22 motor and stock is pretty much the same so for general guidelines, id just use a regular 90-93 accord manual.

one thing i found hard when putting the motor in is take off the dampener and when the engine is in, put the dampener back on.

Call Scott at Collective Racing down in Tucson.

            http://www.collectiveracing.net/

I don't know what he'd charge, but Collective Racing is a shop that would most certainly do the swap correctly. Scott's H22 powered CB7 was featured in a magazine YEARS ago, before most of the kids on here even discovered girls, let alone cars!

thanks for all the info guys and thanks for welcoming me here. just got hold of my friend and his buddy at his shop and he does nothing but swaps and we are just going to do a f22b swap which will only cost me $800 installed and tuned + he's got a few engines with ecu's laying around and is waiting for the h22's to show up which are allready spoken for.

              Thanks for everything

F22B (the JDM DOHC one, I hope... not the garbage USDM SOHC ones) is a good choice. Not quite the performance of an H22, but a decent upgrade, and a nice easy swap. If you're getting the motor, the install, and the tuning for $800, that's a HELL of a deal!

What are they doing to tune it? The F22B will run alright on a PT3 or PT6 ECU, or on the P39 that's made for it. If it's stock, you really don't NEED to do any tuning. If it's going to be tuned, be sure they know what they're doing, or it could do some damage.

Ya thats the price he told me for the F22B DOHC set up and its the original ECU from the car it came out of in Japan. I've allready got a Kamakazi header thats wrapped and with welded support, a friend gave it to me and Magnaflow cat, and 2 1/4" K Teller piping with a magnaflow dual 3" tip system. He's just going to put it on the dyno give a a few pulls and make sure there is nothing wrong with it and to see what #'s it puts down. I know its not the H22 but for the price and especially I need my car NOW its a hell of a deal. I'm going to be helping out so I know whats going on and to get dirty.

                  Thanks

Once you do the F22B, you should be able to do an H22 swap as well... there's not that much more to do with the H22. The experience will be valuable.

I only know one person that has used a Kamikaze header, and it was nothing but trouble for him. Don't chuck your stock manifold right away!

I've been useing that header for about 3 months and havent had no problems with it yet and I couldnt tell you how long my friends had it for. But from what I've read I'm going to use the 1 that comes on the engine and wrap it. Anything is better than driving my big ass gas guzzling chevy built truck. It only gets around 4-8 MPG when I dont baby it but thats what I get for building a 892 HP engine for racing. And yes I'm was a muscle head. I'm planning on getting rid of it after my accord gets fixed and do me up a really nice coupe with the H22 swap with 5 speed.

Man, after an 892hp truck, I can't see an H22 seeming any more powerful than the F22A! The H22 is fun, though... VTEC is neat. Right when you think it's running out of breath, it comes back to life

The truck is fun to drive but is a gas whore and its a trailer queen to the drags. I love my honda its fun to drive. Before the engine gave out I had a 3000 stall converter in it and it launched hard off the line. I always beat my friends 91 integra off the line but he always beat me in the end. I'm keeping the auto thats in it cause I just had that converter put in and redid everything from axles to wheel. Plus its fun watching peoples faces when I take them off the line with an AUTO.

892hp truck, that sounds like fun. Put a stock 350 in the truck, sell the engine seperate for a couple grand and sell the truck. Might get more that way. It amazes me that people built up these honda engines and still get over 20mpg. These 4 bangers are a whole differant world than the old school v8's.

My first VTEC experience was in my buddies Integra. He had IHC, camgear, cams, vtec controller. I rode with him on the freeway and he raced a 50. This was back in my muscle car days and I still owned my 68GS california. I thought, thought he was about to get smoked. 3000,4000,5000rpm I was like ehhh ok. VTEC kicks in and I was like OMG!!! Smoked that stang. Fun
