ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

I bought an A6 intake mani that looked like shit, the guy had it in his basement for years and it had a bunch of coolant stains and efflorescence (the white crap that builds up on basement wall) stains on EVERYTHING. Plus rust from other pieces and parts laying on it.
      Here's two pictures:

I spent a good hour or so trying to get it cleaned by using a whole lot of cleaner, scrubbing, what have you, and nothing made it clean. So I disassembled everything and media blasted it and now everything looks brand spanking new!

So if you have access to a blasting cabinet or even on of those spot blasters, give it a shot. I'm extremely happy with my results after blasting it, took only a couple minutes and was more or less labor free.

As for gaskets, I would get all new ones. Same with the O rings for the injectors. While you have it off the car and it's easy to work on/handle you might as well change those gaskets.

whats the best way of cleaning the egr port's with the manifoild still on the car? i drilled mine out about 4 months ago and blow the holes out with a air compresser...and cleaned the holes with a coat hanger...lol it seemed to work for alittle bit but when im at around 1500 rpm@45mph i can feel the car still stumble like i have a miss in one of my cylinders then if i unplug the egr i dont feel it stump so does that mean the ports are cluged up still? and if so whats the best way of cleaning them?>

If you have the removable plugs installed, just unscrew them and shoot some carb cleaner in there.

If you have the OEM style plugs you are going to have to pop them out without drilling all the way through the plug and/or allowing any metal shavings to fall into the intake manifold. Once you've done that, shoot some carb cleaner in there and plug them back up.

This stuff is the best chemical I've found for cleaning out carbon from the egr ports and runners....and I've tried alot of chemicals, believe me.

you can carb cleaner anywhere parts are sold really...i prolly wouldnt clean it off with it on the car, all that stuff is going right back into the motor.....the best way would be to take it apart, and throw it in my blast cabinet, but if u dont have access to one then i would take it apart and scrub liek hell

I used carb cleaner on mine when I was doing my Head gasket. I had the IM off the car though, which is best. Just use carb cleaner and a brush or rag to wipe it out.

I used kerosene and a very large tray for my A6 runners recently, worked pretty well. Also used some stiff steel brushes, did the EGR tract aswell (just in case, it will be blocked) and used a long brush and assorted lengths of stiff wire to dig the carbon out.

Simple green is the way to go, I have my h23 intake soaking in it and all the hard carbon buildup turned to mush overnight. Awesome stuff.

I can't believe no-one posted the thread from the VW/Audi forum on sticking the intake into a bucket of sand to p&p the motor while it was running.
