Speedo off by 5 km

My speedo works fine all the way to 60 km/h then after that it says that i'm going 5 km/h slower than i am. I have on the right size tires and everything so i don't know what it could be?

I have the opposite, my car says im doing 4kms faster then I am really going (according to my GPS).

I know its no help but thought I would throw it out there.
How do you know your speedo is off?

Mine is 5mph faster under 50, and 5mph slower over 50.

It can be anything from wheel/tire diameter to old sensors to old electronic components in the cluster. OR, instruments in our cars may never have been all that accurate...

dam im sry i know this doesn't help either but mines over by 8 mph past 50. this looks like it be a good topic when you can get a good response...

Speedos on any cars or motorcycles are never 100% accurate. When Im going 60 on my bike Im really doin 53. and it just gets bigger the faster you go. at 120 i am really going like 106-105.

I can't remember if the speedo runs on a cable or not. But if it's cable run, the cable could be old and stretched. Dunno if that helps, but hopefully it does.

You know you're speedo is off when the cop asks you if you know how fast you were going and the speed he tells you is different from what his radar gun picked up. lol
