ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    noob question, PCV VALVE

Ok so I'm still replacing ORIGINAL parts on my 1990 that I got from a little ol lady.

Next on the list, PCV, how do I know if its bad? What would some problems that it would cause IF it is bad? Would it increase gas mileage if I changed it?

I know its the original one and the car has 229K on it, lol.

Just trying to get up to date on maintence on this car. Help me out guys.

Also how do I replace it? I know where it is, but it looks like its attached pretty good.

Take it off and shake it. If it rattles, it is fine. If you are sure its original, you should replace it anyways. It's a $10 part. Probably less.

Probably won't affect mileage any, but it will contribute to the overall health of the engine in the long run. Won't cause any big problems, per se, but it could cause a dangerous condition on a high mileage car like yours with lots of blow by.

yea, id recommend replacing it anyways. 5 dollar part from autozone.

if they stay closed, it wont allow crank case pressure to vent and will blow oil out your seals.

if it stays open, you'll have problems at low end or the car will like to die.

welll, i have a 90, and im pretty sure the f22 in it is not its original, all though it might be, i have a valve seal leak, burning minimal oil, moror has about roughly 120k on it, and, i want to know if the pcv could be attributing to my oil leak. ?

                Response

If your motor seems to be burning oil, its NOT the PCV. The PCV just sucks vapour from the valve cover into the intake plenum so the valve cover doesn't get pressurized.

I installed an inline fuel filter in that hose and wow did I see alot of nasty build up that I dont want going back into my intake. I'm installing a oil catch can tomorrow.

To find out how bad your oil burning is, take it to a shop and watch them do a compression test and show you the numbers. Then you can get an idea of the variance of the cylinders pressure.

Sorry, but I don't know what the cylinder PSI SHOULD be for our motors...maybe someone can post it....

175...i have a brand new motor and mine are 175 across with 4% leak down.

PCV's are so cheap i dont even check them but just throw the old one away and replace. it's kinda like oil filters, would you reuse one that only has 300 miles on it?

                    Hey

Seeing as PCV is suppose to mean Positive Crankcase Ventilation...and ours is on the valve cover... can we call it a PVCV ?...lol
