ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Failed cruising part of emissions test

I just failed the C02 part of the emissions test where it is measuring at cruising speed. I've just ordered a bunch of tune up stuff from rockauto and plan to get a cat and O2 sensor from Pull A Part. That should do it?

Also, there is a exhaust smell in the car at cruising speeds. Do I need to check the manifold gasket or will a new cat take care of that?

i would go with a new 02 sensor just to be safe.

as to the exhaust smell i would check your whole exhaust system from engine to muffler for leaks.

i replaced my whole exhaust because it was plainly shot and i didn't want to fool around with it piecemeal.

otherwise you are on the right track with the tuneup parts, by the way what did you order?

also check your adjustments to see that they are correct

      Cap and Rotor
      Spark Plugs and Wires
      Air Filter
      Fuel Filter
      PCV Valve

All from rockauto.com for a total of: 88.78

Shipping was 25 bucks which kinda sux, but the cap, plugs and wires were all of a higher grade that were being "wholesaled" (like the plugs are platinum for 2.08 per).

Btw, what "adjustments" are you talking about?

        your cat is going bad.

no need to replace the O2 senser if there is no check engine light for it. later.

Are you kidding me? Only needs it if the engine light is on? Shit if an 02 sensor is still toggling it will not cause the light to come on but it can toggle very very slowly...

If you wanna test the cat then you need an inferad (cant spell today, it was a long day) temperature gun and after the car is fully warmed up and you are reving it abit... The outlet of the cat should be 100c or is it f hotter then the inlet (cant remmeber what my temp gun reads)

Lord Les - Can you post up what the readings were?

Just some advice dude, since you live in WA...if you take it to a shop and spend only $150 you can get a waiver...if they don't fix the emissions to go below the limit. Take that waiver when you get your retest and they'll let you go since you "tried" to correct the problem. WA doesn't give a fuck if you pass or fail, they just want $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

I don't have the paperwork right in front of me, it is in the car which is being driven at this time. But I passed everything except the CO2 part when the car is at "cruising" speed. I was something like 5 times over the limit.

I know, but what I'm saying is this....even if you replace all of those parts that you want to order and replace, that doesn't mean it'll correct the problem. Then what? You'll spend more and more money, right? They give you a paper that lists emissions repair shops...take your car to one of them, give them your paper saying you failed emissions and have them do ONE repair that costs $150. They will then test your car at their shop and give you a paper saying what your emission levels were. Take that paper and your original paper BACK to the state emissions inspection place and retake the test. IF YOU FAIL, they will give you a WAIVER and let you register your car anyways, or whatever you need the emissions test for. Spending $150 ONCE beats spending $100 or whatever it is for parts, and then failing again, then spending more money or THEN taking it to a shop to spend $150.

Trust me...I know. It happened with my Camaro. I was an idiot and didn't take it to a shop that was on the list and ended up taking it to one AFTER I had already spend $120 at a different shop that didn't do SHIT for me. So do what I say...it'll save you money. You can replace all those other parts afterwards if you want/have to.
