ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.
2 of 2 < >

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

well...this is the beginner section...not supposed to yell SEARCH but...I mean...come on...this HAS been covered....if you wanna earn some props with fellow members...please TRY to find this on your own first...if a quick search doesn't yield then ask.

Remove the hoses ENGINE COLD! those hoses have coolant in them
          remove the two bolts
use brake cleaner or TB cleaner

careful with the gasket, if you mess it up, you can use some tranny case pookey (RTV) a small amount and it'll seal it. Or just buy a new gasket for the best result. I used tranny rtv all around on mine but I've got experience using that stuff.

put the gasket on, put the iacv on, put the bolts in, just snug them I don't know the torque specs but it ain't much!, plug in the hoses (you shouldn't have lost that much coolant...run the car and after it cools go ahead and check the coolant level.

IF you think you can handle it...but I wouldn't recommend it to a novice as you might SERIOUSLY burn yourself if you cross wires, you can apply voltage (and ground) to the pins and make the plunger activate, allowing a better clean. if you do this and it doesn't activate...switch the wires. You'll want some clips and good wire to do this...I used a test probe but that sucker costs like over $100

you are really just cleaning the screen off and the ports a little...clean it and spray it GOOD...you don't want junk you freed up going into the engine.

Next you'll need to check your idle...but I'm gonna tell you to search cause I KNOW that is covered...hell I have a long as thread on it...if you can't find that then I'll give you the link (well if it's still here after the update some stuff got lost or changed)

yes.your idle WILL drop...just play with the idle adjustment screw and get it to where you want that way...

it may actually raise it...if it's clogged you may have a sputter or low idle as this is the Idle Air Control Valve, and if it's clogged you'll have a bad idle.

*sigh...here is how to adjust idle screw

                  ficv adjusting
                  http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showpost...01&postcount=1

I believe the proper procedure is to let the car warm up
                  turn off the car
                  unplug IACV electrical connector
                  start car
screw in idle screw until it is about to die, then unscrew it to 700rpms...or is it 500rpms...

                  turn off car
plug IACV electrical connector back in
                  start car
car should idle, when warm, at around 900rpm *edit*(I recommend 900, others will say 700-900)*/edit*

If at that point if it idles too low, unscrew until it reaches 900
If it idles to high, screw in until it reaches 900
But for that you must have adjusted correctly FIRST on a WARMED UP engine and make the following adjustments also on a warmed up engine. Make sure it's ran long enough after shutting it off that it goes into closed loop too.

                  *note
My idle screw was loose and would not stay tight, had to readjust every few weeks. I had to use a liquid gasket to keep the idle screw from backing out...currently no issues.

Now after you do this, if it still doesn't idle right, then
clean the iacv screen (not a bad idea to do whether it idles right or not)
clean the throttle body (again, good idea to do no matter)
                  adjust FICV

if still no go...potentially bad IACV
                  questions? please ask
