ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

H22 swap for daily beater? Opinions?

So I daily drive my Evo VIII but gas prices and insurance are kinda taking the fun out of the car. My dad was just going to have my bros old 1990 Accord (200k+ miles) junked since no one will be driving it and it will just take up space. I asked my dad for it so I can use it to commute and also lower my insurance.

It's got some issues mainly one being that the auto tranny will not start in first gear from a stop. I would gas it and the revs go up while the car ever so slowly creeps forward. I would have to put the shifter in L or 1 (don't remember which) just to get it in first gear to go up hills.

So I was toying with ideas of an H22 swap last night because...well because I would hate to drive something slow and boring even for commuting purposes. What kind of mileage do you guys see with this swap? Anyone have any 0-60 or 1/4 mile times? How much does the H22 engine and tranny usually cost? I'm kinda worried that if I wanted to venture down this path that the engine itself would end up being worth more than the car as it sits now.

    What do you guys think?

Auto tranny swap is about $1500

You will get good gas mileage and still chirp 2nd

I would say it's worth it, replace all the suspension parts and u will have a good beater

a new complete swap will run you about 2k (give or take a bit) not including the install. may or may not be worth it depending on current car condition.

mileage is pretty decent as long as you keep your foot out of it. (hard to do, its fun to drive, likes to rev.)

im taking the car to the track next week so i'll get some ET's then.

      Bought from: Bisimoto, FuncOvrForm, HondaGuy1212, wed3k, Konigstiger, 1st2run, BillKisme, k-mart, benjerman112

Ouch $2k just for the engine and tranny. As it sits the cars not worth even half that. I think I'll just see if I can fix the tranny and just leave this as a slow daily beater so I can focus more on my Evo and then hopefully getting a K20 EG project started up.

Sucks don't wanna be bored driving to work

well for less than $1K you can have a fun beater that handles well and is pretty quick. get a A6 IM, cam, and PT6 ECU, exhaust, intake and a nice suspension and you'll be taking out civics and tegs with ease plus being able to handle well too.

there are a couple people up here selling nice suspension set ups for cheap and you can find an a6 intake manifold, cam and ECU at your local junk yard for less than like $300 or less an H22 for a DD would be a waste of time. you'll still be using 93 octane and im sure once you know you got an H behind that foot you'll get heavy on it. lol.

did you try inspecting your shift cable? mine came loose the other day b/c the 10mm bolt backed out and the cable wouldn't shift any gears in the trans.

              It's an auto tranny.

                He has an auto tranny.

Here is a basic list of some cheap maintenance you can do that may help your shifting issue.
