ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

CODE 12 – Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR).

Exhaust Gas Recirculation – it reduces nitrogen oxides by recirculation exhaust gases through the EGR valve and into the combustion chamber.

What to do: Before proceeding on EGR valve replacement , sometimes just cleaning the EGR valve and ports may solve the problem. If that exercise failed , proceed on replacing the EGR valve. Start the vehicle and let run to it's normal temperature. Once that's done , disconnect the number 16 hose on the EGR valve. The EGR valve is located on the left side of the fuel rail. There should be no vacuum once the hose is disconnected. If there is vacuum present , install a compact vacuum pump and apply to the valve to check if the engine stalls. If the EGR valve does not hold the vacuum , replace the EGR valve. To replace the EGR valve , unplug the electrical connector. Remove the nuts that holds the EGR valve in place. Carefully lift the EGR valve and clean the mating surface. Install new EGR gasket and install the new EGR valve. Tighten it in place securely and plug in the electrical connector. Reset the ECU and start the vehicle.

Sputtering's normally spark plugs/wires. If you end up replacin' them, check the plugs. See if there's oil on them....or in the holes. When the people first put my engine in, this is one of the codes it threw. This one, my o2 sensor, and my VSS. I reset the ecu (took of negative terminal, pulled the Ecu and radio fuse). Then, it only threw the o2 sensor code. I've never had another 12.

i've noticed when im driving it reaches almost normal opperating temp.
it does not throw a CEL 12 as long as it is in the middle....
and as soon as my temp drops it turns on...but what does the temp have
to do with the EGR system...
also my temp meter never reaches the middle it almost does and later it drops
to about a almost cold and doesnt rise again and thats when i get the CEL 12
        and ideas what is wrong....

How hard is it too replace egr and clean the port. I am getting the the same egr code 12. A new egr valve cost $210. If I just clean the ports will that help at all? My car runs fine, but the idle is slightly high.

this sounds like a loose or cut vacuum hose to me.... take your control box back off and make sure the EGR's hose is connected on the inside (i think its the #6 0r 13) if thats not it then check the EGR itself.

buy some throttle body cleaner and spray it into the smaller exhaust side.... if it comes out the intake side it means its constantly staying open... no good time to replace (junkyard 5$)

if it checks out ok then put it back on and reset the ECU like said earlier.... also ensure proper electrical connections, hopefully you looked at that first.

            good luck,
            mike

              Code 12 Help

**Note: Make sure the vacuum hoses are connected properly in the Control Box located on the firewall**

**Note: Use this diagram to connect all of the hoses to your H22**

I just put an H22A in my CB and resolved all CEL codes last night. Had the same problem. What caused mine was the vaccum hoses. I had them mixed up. You need to check the black box on the firewall and make sure that hose #16 is going to the EGR, and that the EGR is not hooked up to the hose going over the fuel injection wires. It might be short, as in my case, so get some extra hose and a plastic elbow and extend #16 from the black control box on the firewall and connect it to the EGR. I also cleaned out the EGR. It's super easy. Take the 2 nuts off the EGR, they should be a 12MM. Next, get some carb cleaner, q-tips, and a toothbrush and clean all the black carbon off of the inside of the EGR. Done. Now for where the EGR sits: Jack up the driver's side of the car and put a jack stand on the drivers side so that the passenger side is lower than the drivers side. Spray carb cleaner into where the EGR sits on the intake. Use the Q-tips and a tooth brush and get all that carbon out. (the reason why the car is jacked up on one side is so you don't get carb cleaner all up in your intake.) Make sure the intake is dry on the inside and put the EGR back on.

If that don't fix your problem, keep me informed. Hope that helps!

This thread helped me out. I removed and cleaned my egr valve and I get no more check engine light. Thanks guys.
