ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Changing Shift cable but has a burning ?

The shift cable in my girl's car is messed up.

All the gears puts the car in reverse.

I took out the cable and saw the cable is totally busted.

I am trying to figure out if the tranny is in Neutral.

Is there any pointers anybody can give this noob?

    Thanks in Advance.

Changing this cable is like changing a tire with vice grips and a flathead screwdriver.

    It's no fun.

Things that you need to remove: exhaust downpipe, heatshield(NO NOT THE ONE IN THE ENGINE BAY!! The oily one above your exhaust, thats right!),transmission shift cover, console cover for shifter.

If you can spare the money I would suggest you do so.

If you can do this swap then you can do almost any swap LOL
Meh, not feeling the honda game anymore.

Taking the shifter cables out and refitting isn't all that hard, but it's not all that easy either. I managed it without removing the heat shield above the exhaust, but it is awkward.

You need to remove the nuts holding the front of the shield to the chassis and then forcefully pull and flex the heat shield forward so that you can get it past the studs, then pull it downward so you can access the the nuts that hold the rubber 'plate' where the cables enter the cabin (accessing these nuts with the shield half in situ is a bit tight but can be done).

There's also a bracket on the subframe that's a bit awkward to remove / refit, and from memory some things in the engine bay need to be moved aside so the cables can be pulled up through the bay.

        Thanks All,

I got it changed and its easier to shift now.

The hardest part was the Area by the heat shield.

I had to undo all the Heat shield bolts and pull it towards the front.

          just a quick tip...

if you're shift cables or accelerator cables break, always check the engine ground. If there is a bad engine ground, all the power will ground out through those tiny cables which causes them to corrode and break.

there are a few ways to test this, but testing them with a multimeter is almost impossible unless you disconnect the accelerator cable and the other shift cable. The best way is just to look at the engine ground cable, make sure it is still intact... not corroded... etc. If it is run a new ground from the engine to the chassis.

it will save a lot of headaches trying to figure out why you are toasting shift cables for no apparent reason every couple of months.

Thanks for the Tidbit but the wire was frayed because of age.

            It has 122,000 on it.
