    Timing tensioners pulleys

Hello everyone! My name is Cali. I'm new to this site, and I need some help with the timing tensioner pulleys. I searched on the search link but didn't find anything related to the pulleys. While reading the instructions for changing the timing belt on the link. I did everything that needed to be done at a point, until the adjusting nut was really hard to break loose. I kept stripping the bolt while loosing it. I managed to get it loose. But, the adjusting nut was pretty much shot... so i had to remove it to replace it with a new one. Now the pulleys are out of its original position. Does anyone know how to put them back to its original positions? Thanks

I'm talking about both the timing belt pulley and the timing balancer pulley. They both have springs on them, But they should be both in a certain position when putting them back on. I have just the timing balancer pulley out. I just don't know if that pulley needs to be flush with the timing belt pulley when putting it back on? I never did anything to the timing belt pulley so i think that will be ok? but the timing balancer pulley is out.

I'm assuming you're working on a manual tensioner setup since you have two springs.

Retension both belts by the book. Take the balance belt off and do the timing belt tension, tighten the lock bolt (leave it tight if you want), then do the balancer tension. Don't loosen the adjusting nut any more than necessary when allowing the springs to tension, or the tensioner pulleys can go out of alignment. Make sure you turn the crankshaft over a few times and can bring everything back into alignment at TDC after you think you've got it. The springs set the tension, let them do their job, and Good Luck!

Well the deal is, I have the timing belt off and the balancer belt off. Its just that, I had a really tough time getting the adjuster nut loose. I mean, That thing was really tight. When i was trying to loosen it, all i did was strip the bolt really bad. So i just used vise plyers, Grip the bolt really tight then hit it with a crow bar and hammer. It came off but the bolt was really messed up. So i had to take it out...knowing that that bolt shouldn't be taking out! But i had no other choice. So i have that pulley out but don't know how, or what position it should be back on? I think its out of alignment anyways. I just want to know how you get it back aligned to its original state?

I have the whole pulley out. I just don't know if the pulley needs to be in a certain position when i assemble it back on. I mean when you put it on without the adjuster nut on it, it shifts up and down without the spring. But when you put the spring on, When you lift the pulley up, it puts tension on the spring. When you push it down it doesn't put any pressure on the spring. Where should this pulley be at when i put it back together with the adjuster nut tighted and the 10mm bolt next to it?

Is it a good idea to replace these 2 springs when doing a T-belt change?

You shouldn't have to replace those springs unless you lose them.

Ok, here's a picture so we can be sure what parts we're talking about.

#22 is the bolt/shaft that the tensioners go on
#21 is the pivot pin that the hole in the right side of the timing tensioner goes on
You will have to push down on the timing tensioner and use the lockbolt (not pictured) to temporarily hold the tensioner out of the way (against the spring) enough to put the timing belt on

To be Honest, I think you should replace the springs.
They are only 3 bucks tops.
The Timing belt jumped 3 teeth because the previous mechanic did not bother to change these springs.
When I pulled out the old ones. They were really stretched.

I don't know if its wear or the mechanic did something to wear them out.

3 bucks a spring is cheap insurance to make sure that everything works right and you don't have to open up the engine again.

All i wanted to know about this is that, I've taken the timing balancer belt pulley out. I just want to know how to position it back where it belongs or does it need to be in a certain position Thats all, But i do have it back on did the original tension (loosen adjusting nut, tighting it, rotated the crank three teeth on the cam, loosen adjusting nut then tighting it deal.) I just hope the belt doesn't jump any teeth when im readyto start it. Also, I moved the bottom crankshaft about a 1/4 inch turn during the timingbelt procedure, my camshaft also moved just a little, am i still safe?

Spin the crankshaft around a few times, come back to TDC and check all the alignments again. I'm replacing valves in an H22 right now because I didn't double-check things. The balancer belt pulley only goes on one way since it goes over the crankshaft key, but you have to use a long 6mm diameter rod to tell if the rear balance shaft is right. I hope this helps.

                              Did Lucid say...

That you can leave the lock bolt tight? Are we talking about the bolt you put into #17 in the diagram? When you are putting the timing belt on...
