welllllllll
any thread involving my engine up to this point may have been a big waste of time.
for me anyway. im sure there is good info for other folks.
i took the timing cover off at lunch today.
started inspecting.
found the oil pump seal COVERED in thick cakey greasy shit, along with a fair bit of play.
one of the engine mount bolts had also come out and was laying loose in the timing compartment.
called the company i bought the engine from, they said "we dont cover oil pumps as part of the warranty, but since this is how you recieved it then no problem, we'll send you another one."
the next new/used engine will be here tomorrow morning.
all i have to do is toss this old crapper back together, wrap the harness around it and load it into their truck.
in short:
buy your engines from reputable dealers. even if its a used one.
i got mine from Engineworld in emeryville ca.
it comes with a 6mo unlimited mile warranty.
if i had bought a craigslist engine or something of the like i would potentially be very screwed depending on the extent of the damage.
lesson learned.
its a pain in the ass, and it sets me back by a couple days. but the peace of mind is worth all the hassle.
