ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    idle issues

So i noticed that when i turn my car on itll go to 1500rpm and stay there until it warms up..i know its not supposed to do this because my car normally goes to about 1000rpm and goes to about 800 when its warmed up..whats the issue here? also my car is running rich because i can smell the exhaust gases when i turn the car off and i get horrible gas mileage (22mpg). what are my options?

    Thanks alot
    Brad

i think your idle is normal, my car does the same thing. most cars idle faster when they are started to help them warm up quicker

      x2.

Mine goes up to around 1500 and as it gets warmer it slowly drops down to around 700-800.

my car warms up in about a minute here in AZ. Idk if I screwed anything up when doing my headgasket (coolant lines), but it never used to warm up that quick before.

I recently discovered that I had a slightly sticking slide pin on my pass. rear caliper so you may want to check the slide pins on yours funny as that sounds just to make sure. I was getting about 21mpg city w/ occasional highway and a fresh cyl. head rebuild.

I dont know how to check them, but I'm take off the wheels soon anyway, so I figured I'd just greese up all the moving parts int eh calipers...would that do it?

yeah I would just check it....you never know...they just fail sometimes w/ mileage and wear and tear. Just remove your wheels and then remove the caliper (piston part). Then you'll be able to remove the slide pins and regrease them. If they won't slide out easily, then take the caliper bracket off and try your best to take them out.

I had a hard time removing my rear caliper lower slide pins. For some reason the lower ones froze up instead of the uppers, weird.

But just go to Autozone and buy that little packet of grease they sell to lubricate brake parts. One packet should be enough for 2 calipers to lube up all the slide pins and plates the pads slide on.

is it a humming? that could be a wheel bearing issue. That also robs gas mileage...causing more friction.

try adjusting the brake dust shield, that's what's prob. rubbing on the brake rotor. Its that black thing behind the rotor, just bend it so its not touching the rotor anymore.

wow this is gonna sound stupid but did you do the normal checks?air cleaner, fuel injectors, fuel filter, exhaust, catylitic converter? also check for gasket leaks in head, intake mani (gaskets) and exhaust. these can often cause erratic idle and serious loss in gas mileage, also check for flow in pcv valve and all tubes to see if leak, also egr valve, I'd bet you anything yours is filthy, might be wrecked if so you can get one cheap. Hope this helped

                            only advice you need

buy a haynes manuel, theyre cheap, theyre at every auto parts store in america and they'll teach you a little bit about diagnosing problems with your vehicle. and like I said before check the chapters on the areas I stated on my above post.

A 1500RPM initial idle is normal for a cold engine. The FIV steps the idle for a faster warmup and to prevent idle surge when the engine is cold.

That comes from a Helm's manual, which is the official OEM manual.
