r134a in 93 accords?

I know that. When he goes to the mechanic I'm sure he'll just hook up a system and walk away for 30 minutes so it can recover, evacuate, and recharge. I'm just meaning to say that he needs to change more than the compressor.
Like phoamy said, it's best to have a mechanic charge it up for you. After you do the conversion don't be fooled by autozone with their cans of refrigerant that say they recharge your system.
Not only will the refrigerant be contaminated that's in there resulting in a faulty a/c. But most people have the mantality that more refrigerant = colder air. Wrong. Most people I have seen will, once their a/c is full and they have excess in the can, they will just shoot the rest in.
With the overcharge of now contaminated refrigerant you will witness insufficient cooling.
edit: also, with every a/c service, it is common practice to replace the reciever drier in the system.

The AC/Drier as already ymentioned is a mandatory replacement when converting to 134a. You can find them for cheap at parts stores instead of OEM honda. Make sure anything you tear apart you seal properly. if you have a leak this would be a good time to replace the orings. The kit should cost around 10 bucks at the local parts store with tons of spare o rings.

personally, I would keep the R12 if you don't have any leaks to deal w/. yeah R134 is cheaper per can. But you'd have to do A LOT of converting to get it to function properly. And R12 is also more efficient, meaning it blows WAY colder.
I just had my AC recharged and it cost about 60 bucks and it blows 46* at the vents now. So i'm happy, esp. in AZ.
But yeah to do the conversion properly, you'd have to:
-vacuum out all the old fluid
-convert the dryer or at least get a new one since the old one is covered in R12
-new R134 oil
-new fittings
its just a hassle, and plus the guy that did mine charges more to diagnose a r134 system...or rather a flat fee of 114 bucks. If all you need is a recharge, then get the system recharged w/ R12. R12 isn't some rare earth refrigerant, there's still PLENTY of it left.

R22 and R12 are still around and being made its just before you could buy it and vent it to the ozone to help with green house effects which btw affect the polar ice caps dramaticly, it is estimated that by this time next year we will no longer have a north pole! thanks industrial revolutions!

If you've had a couple prelude parts cars, it's pretty easy to get the compressor and drier. Please reassure my faith in human intelligence and tell me that having a different kind of fitting is something we make an adaptor for....that would be a retarded obstacle that will make me regret throwing prelude underhood lines away (Which probably fit our cars too). I have my heart set on a reliable stock conversion from one car to another and will not be stopped! The car already thinks it's a Prelude anyway.

Alternatively, you could recharge with one of the HC (hydrocarbon) refrigerants. Before you do, though, be aware that they are banned in some states (but not up here in Canada). I think there might be some stipulation that you have to change the fittings on the car to R134 (or some type of quick release) as well.
Here's one type of HC www.duracool.com and there are many others like Freeze 12 etc. One benefit of using HC is that it's compatible with either type of oil PAG (r134) or mineral (r12), so you don't have to blow your lines to get all of the mineral oil out like you do when converting to R134.
HCs are also more efficient (colder) than R134, but about equal to R12. You will also have less head pressure on the compressor with HC.

I just had mine coverted about three weeks ago for 145 out the door. But I needed a Condenser wich cost me another 300 installed and i also need a Evaporator which the shop quoted me a price of 200 installed but im waiting to see if i can get a junk yard or used one for cheap.
There for A/C can get very exspensive so you should be aware of that.
