ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

Most fuel efficient RPM to shift?

Once upon a time I owned an 89 accord 5 speed. It came with the owners manual. In the manual it listed the most fuel efficient shift points.

So now I have an 90 accord 5 speed, but it didn't come with the manual.
I'm wondering if first, the 90 manual came with this information also, and second if anyone could share it if it did.

My 90 owners manual says to shift at 15mph, 28mph, 41mph, 52mph for best fuel economy and emissions control.

I find that those points are usually around 3k

Another equally important but often forgot mileage technique is using light throttle applications. If you use 1/2 throttle and shift a 3k you'll probably get worse mileage than someone shifting at 3.5k but barely touching the throttle. I follow the shift speeds in the owners manual and with really light thottle applications I got 35.4mpg on my last tank, that is with a F22B DOHC running on a P39 ECU.

That is very true. I got an extra 4mpg with my gas-hog GTP by using light throttle and not letting it go above 2500 (which is high for that V6)

So would giving 3rd a lot of gas to get up a hill at around 30 mph be less economical than using second and lighter on gas? I just feel like second is up around 3200rpms which seems a bit steep.

It depends on just how much the throttle percentage difference is between the two gears, I shift higher when ascending steep hills to avoid using more throttle in the next gear and due to the quicker loss of momentum when a shift is made while going uphill.
