ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:

    delta 260

Welp, I'll be sendin' my cam to Delta here soon. Seems like a pretty simple mod, with decent gains. My question is, with upgrading the camshaft...would upgrading the cam gear be helpful, or a waste. Don't wanna spend money on a cam gear that doesn't show any gain/benefit. Thanks.

Oh, and...as I've read in a few threads (been researchin' on this delta cam stuff), that...once you get the cam in, you'll need your valves adjusted. Could any average mechanic do this?, or is it better to do it yourself?

i'm sure you could do it if you follow the directions from the Haynes manual or better.

the only thing that makes me wonder is, if you're using an aftermarket cam...

what values do you follow and re-adjust youre valves to? stock?

Get a manual and adjust your valves yourself. It's not difficult, just a little time consuming. But yeah, with the new cam, you'll want to do that. You'd probably benefit from an adjustment anyway, even as it sits now!

That's a good question about the adjusting, Leung. I'll let someone who knows better than I do answer that. I would think stock, but I could be wrong.

As for the cam gear... it CAN be useful, but most people have found that adjusting the cam timing with the Delta grinds hasn't really done anything great. If you get a cam gear, get a Bisimoto gear. They're the best out there, and they look cool

Also, why the 260? Are you automatic? It's not a bad choice, I'm just curious. If you're 5 speed, the 272 is usually best... auto, 260 is the way to go.

Yea, Deev. I'm an Auto. I have....cold-air, dc-sport header, and custom 2.25" exhaust to a performance muffler. (Not a fart can). And after reading that gettin' a cam upgrade with a few mods, is definitely a benefit...that's what I figured my next performance mod should be. They say 272 isn't best on the gas situation, and right now I'm working on gettin' my mileage back. And the reason I asked about the cam, is cause...I know a cam gear upgrade on a dohc helps, but I also read that puttin' an upgraded cam gear on a sohc wouldn't really do much. Maybe an extra horse? And yea, I just recently bought a Haynes manual Monday. I'ma use this thaaang for my sensor replacements. It's like..my bible. The girl envys it already. haha, it gets more attention. And no, it's not an aftermarket cam. It's actually an A1 cam. I got the engine replaced, and got my intake manifold from the A6, and performance header. Only thing I'd need to get my A6 back, was the cam. And read up on this cam regrind. Why buy an A6, when I could get a better deal for a few extra bucks.

when you adjust your valve to aftermarket cams, if it isn't a huge lobe cam, like say a stage 2 and up, you can set it to a stock standard. I believe a stage 2, you can get away with a stock adjustment, just a little tighter. but a stage 3 and on, they usually have their own specs for it.

                  stock valve lash is
                  intake .010"

                  exhaust .012"

                  Delta 260
                  intake .008"

                  exhaust .010"
(this info is straight from the piece of paper i got with my 260 cam)

I think that setting the valve lash a bit on the tight side like Delta suggests is a good idea because it tends to get looser overtime, correct me if I am wrong.
Doing the valve lash adjustment isn't hard, just make sure you double check it if it is your first time!
