how to tell if my AC compressor works?

make sure the car has the right amount freon then turn ur ac on full blast with the ac botton on and pop the hood look down at the ac compessor and see if the little clutch on the out side has ingagued if it does it works if not then idk proble broke..one other thing the a/c compressor want turn on if it dont have the right amount of freon....

OH, so it wont engage if it's not full of freon? because I didnt think it engaged but I probably dont have the system full anyways.

I have a sticker that says it was converted to r 134 so I need to get a can of it to refill.


does anyone have a picture to tell me what to look for exactly? what does the clutch look like?

ok go to autozone or something and buy like 2 cans of r134 with oil and a gauge that tells u when its full and turn ur ac on full blast and plug it in ur low line which is right when u open the hood its right there and fill it intill the gague show's full....u will hear the a.c compesser click on and off as u fill it up look in ur dryer tube by ur dip stick and see if you can see white fluid going though it, but i gotta pix of the clutch on the compresser when the compresser is off the cluth sits there like floater rims...lol and when it ingagues it spins with the pully the trinagle thing is the clutch

sweet, the clutch is right outside the pully, I was thinking it was between the body and the pully, somewhere small, lol. Thanks a lot bro.

Looked at the pully, but didn;t see a clutch as in the picture! So maybe this thing doesn;t even have a clutch or something, maybe it broke. I don;t know. Maybe there were different versions.

You can simply hear it cycle on from the drivers seat. The high pressure switch has developed a leak twice in the 7 years I have owned my Accord. It leaked all freon out each time. When the pressures are not in the high and low range, it will not allow the compressor to cycle on in order to protect the system.

i dont hear it turn on. I think i should just take it to midas, they advertise an ac system check for 30, may be worth it before I start wasting money on stuff I dont need.

Midas is gonna try to rip your head off with a bunch of crap you don't need. They'll probably even try to sell you an R-134a retro-fit kit, which you already have. Most common a/c leak on these cars is a: the high pressure line thet the pressure switch mounts to, and, b: the pressure switch itself. I would first verify a proper refrigerant charge, if the a/c still won't engage, then most likely, it's electrical. bad clutch coil, or possibly a bad clutch plate. Either way, your first step is to verify refrigerant charge. Good Luck!
