ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

    Egr cleaning

Lately my car has been doing a weird sputtering problem. When I first start the car it hesitates to go up to speed, once the CEL turns on it drives perfect. Car gave me a code 12.

I think I have to clean the EGR and ports but I don't know how. I've read the DIY on the port plugs but I don't see how that will help me fix the problem. Can someone please show me a picture of the EGR because I can't find it.

    Thanksz in advance.

its the thing to the left of the fuel rail. Kinda looks like it has a binder clip on it. It's secured by 2 12mm bolts. Unplug the connector and the vacuum line and its out.

Thanks a lot! So I just take it out and clean it? Use carb cleaner? And will this fix my sputtering problem?

you will most likely have to drill the egr service ports out.

that is correct. I cleaned my egr valve and my car still was sluggish at low speed [under 20]. started to drill the egr ports, but then realized that i dont want shrap metals in my engine so i had to remove the WHOLE Intake Manifold [Intake, TB, Plenum, Fuel Rail, Fuel Injector, etc...] it was messy with the liquid, but well worth it in the end. I tapped it and currently using screws that have allen key on the top for easier cleaning next time.

My ports were so clogged it was unbelievable....take a full weekend to do it right, i went through 4 cans of Carbon Cleaner just on the IM.

Why would you get shards of metal in the engine?

The ports are in the intake manifold. So you can't get the metal and stuff out of it, unless you remove it.

The ports don't go in the intake thought. Its seperate from the intake technicaly. All it does is go out the exaust port past the valve. You shouldn't get anything in the engine.... the egr is sealed off from the intake runners.

Call it a newb move, but Ive decided to actually read up and learn about all this EGR and IAC and FITV and what-not. I got the IAC and FITV, now I'm onto the EGR.

I know where its located and how to remove it, my question is, what has to be cleaned on that part? I understand putting new plugs in the ports, but I'm focusing on the EGR itself for right now. I'm just lost as to how the this went from the OP asking about the EGR to talking about drilling and metal shards...
