ANY BUYING/SELLING IN THIS FORUM WILL RESULT IN AN INSTANT BAN!

Read the rules: http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/showthread.php?t=43956

Myself, and the other mods have been very nice and lenient with the rules. We have been deleting threads, and giving out warnings. Some members didn't get the clue and re-posted over and over... Now ANY member buying or selling in this section will be banned... No IF's AND's or BUT's.

Beginner Forum Rules - EVERYBODY read! (old and new members alike!)

Beginners start here. Once you have 30 worthwhile posts (off topic doesn't count) you may post outside of the Beginner forums. Any "whoring" (posting simply to raise your post count) will return your count to 0, or result in a ban.

These are the rules. Read them. Live by them.

1) Absolutely NO flaming! "Flaming" is an outright attack on a member. ALL questions are encouraged to be asked here, no matter how basic. Members with over 30 posts will be subject to a ONE WEEK ban if caught flaming in this forum (and yes, moderators can read deleted posts). Members with under 30 posts will be subject to a ONE DAY ban.

2) Use appropriate language. Racial or sexual slurs will not be tolerated. A ban will be issued at the discretion of the cb7tuner.com staff.

3) No items may be sold in the Beginner forums. Any "for sale" threads will be deleted.

4) Temporarily banned members will be PERMANTLY banned if they are found posting on another account.

The rules can and will be added to. Any updates will be marked in the title.

The rules for the overall forum can be found here:
http://www.cb7tuner.com/vbb/forumdisplay.php?f=144
Read them. You will be expected to follow them.

    RAM Intake

    Hey guys

Whats the difference between a shorter RAM and the standard one? Pros and Cons?

(This is my first time tuning a car, and this forum is the best way for me to learn about this stuff.)

short ram is not a cold air intake, cold air unit piping will continue into fender. i recomend the full cold air, both short and full will give noticable hp change from stock

      Short ram
Pro: better air flow, Sounds good, Quick replacement, cheap, maybe 1-2 hp
Cons: Still sucks hot air in the engine bay.

      Cold air:
Pro:Better air flow, Sounds good, Recieves outside air temps instead of engine bay temps, maybe 3-5hp
Cons: Have to be more careful about water puddles cuz if you suck up water, say bye bye to ur motor, Little bit more time consuming to install, Usually a bit more expensive.

The pros and cons of both arent huge but those are really the only things that come to mind. You wont get a huge increase from either of them unless your motor is built. Well you wont ever get a HUGE increase from either but the butt dyno will notice. But the Cold Air Intake is preferred by most and it is considered a better performance upgrade than the short ram.

Water puddles? I've heard mention of a bypass valve, is that necessary?

Thanks. I've been reading on this since I posted and I found that some people frown upon valves as they make your engine lose power. Is that true?

the main purpose of the bypass valve is to stop hydro lock, you will not lose/gain hp from installing one. if you drive in the rain often then GET ONE!!!! but if your car doesnt see rain then dont worry about it. i ran a short ram for 2 years before switching to the full cai, i have noticed alot of gains. im chirping tires in a auto for christ sake

You'll loose a lot more power when you suck up water and hydrolock.

you will not have any power if you hydrolock

so something like this? And just replace the filter? (and add the valve?)
